Job Summary:The Process Piping Designer will support the delivery of process piping design projects from various markets and industries. This role involves piping and equipment design work, specification coordination and implementation, leading other designers in small project teams, quality and coordination reviews, coordination with other engineering disciplines on projects, and client interactions. Field work requires experience and confidence working in and around heavy industrial equipment, systems, and industrial environments. This is a full-time permanent salaried position. In this role, you will
  • Provide piping design services that meet the needs of our clients as well as the overall project scope, schedule, and budget requirements
  • Make field measurements, verify designs, and provide new or corrected piping designs and tie-in's in the field for fabrication and installation.
  • Ensure development of consistent and high-quality project deliverables
  • Ensure that our process piping designs conform to the applicable codes and standards requirements
  • Coordinate process design elements with other disciplines
  • Listen to clients' needs and independently provide value by developing and evaluating options based upon project success factors
  • Communicate design recommendations to our clients, project teams, construction contractors, and vendors in presentations, meetings, via email and/or phone
  • Able to demonstrate a high standard of professionalism and customer service
  • Develop and refine process piping design methodologies, tools, and standards
  • Stay abreast of relevant industry developments and technology advancements
Requirements:
  • You are highly motivated, self-driven, and capable of working in an independent manner using critical thinking
  • Familiar with the process piping design process/sequence
  • Experience executing multi-discipline designs in an integrated approach
  • 5+ years of industry experience
  • Associate degree in a related engineering technology discipline or equivalent work experience.
Skills/abilities:
  • Design Software:
    • Plant 3D, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and BIM360
    • Revit, Bluebeam, Microstation, Smartplant 3D, and Vault a plus
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience creating and interpreting PFDs, P&IDs, & Gas
  • Ability to create 3D piping and equipment models from P&IDs, specifications, and reference drawings utilizing theoretical and practical design knowledge
  • Ability to read and understand orthographic drawings
  • Ability to create 2D orthographic isometric drawings from models for communication of a design in construction documents based upon design data and field measurements
  • Ability to interpret and apply technical specifications
  • Basic knowledge of industry standards such as API, ASME, ASTM, PIP
  • Ability to interpret and ensure conformance to applicable standards and codes, as well as company policies and procedures
  • Ability to work with point clouds as part of the design process is a requirement for this position
  • Excellent listening, written and verbal communication skills both internally and with clients
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to recognize discrepancies
Location: Columbus, Ohio; open to remote if willing to travelTravel: Work will involve travel to clients' facilities; travel percentage will be based on location.Physical Requirements
  • Lifting/carrying: Carrying light loads related to field measurement equipment, equipment cases weighing 15 lbs. or less.
  • Dexterity: Ability to type using a keyboard with relative efficiency, ability to make handwritten notes and sketches indoors and outdoors at industrial plants and construction sites at any time of the year. Ability to utilize a tape measure and other measuring devices while recording data.
  • Walking/Climbing: Ability to use multi-level stair towers and rung ladders unassisted. Ability to crawl into areas if necessary. Ability to work at height and in enclosed spaces.
  • Visual Acuity: Ability to discern single line and 3-dimensional computer images representing objects being designed or drafted.
  • Hearing: Ability to hear safety alarms and signals while wearing hearing protection.
  • Physical exertion: Ability to walk up to one mile on industrial plant and construction sites outdoors at any time of the year. Ability to work in protective clothing which may elevate body temperatures by several degrees Fahrenheit for periods of up to 15 minutes without a break.
  • Breathing: Ability to work while wearing a respirator or self-contained breathing apparatus if required on a project.
