Job Description How will you make an impact? The Field Service Engineer for the Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) of Thermo Fisher Scientific performs on-site installation, alignment and repair of sophisticated equipment and systems. Engineers validate operational quality of system equipment; advise customers in the operation and maintenance of the system; serve as company liaison with customer on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects; and conduct on-site installations of analytical instruments serving the electronics research and manufacturing industries. The Field Service Engineer will join a diverse team with skills ranging from sophisticated computer networks, precision mechanics, high voltage electronics, vacuum theory, particle beams, optics, and chemistry.
This role invites the candidate to grow and learn in a challenging culture of shared purpose and drive! What you will do: - Conduct on-site installations across the region
- Conduct on-site scheduled planned maintenance visits per commitments and schedule
- Provide troubleshooting and repair support for customers and other field service personnel
- Cultivate and develop positive working relationships with users and colleagues
- Complete technical training, as required
- Travel, often on short notice, to customer sites to resolve problems
- Advise external customers, manufacturing and internal customers thru effective communication
- Partner with colleagues as mentee and mentor to continue personal and team development
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts for Service, documentation, and product factories
- Collaborate with application scientists, technical support engineers, and customers to resolve complex customer challenges
Minimum Qualifications: - University Engineering Degree or equivalent combination of technical education and experience on sophisticated systems, or equivalent military experience
- Prior experience using SEM, TEM, FIB, Circuit Analysis, or similar systems (ideally 2+ years)
- Ability to partner effectively with customers
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills; must have a professional working proficiency in English
- High level of proficiency on Windows software, network knowledge, current computer hardware
- Must have ability to obtain a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as required
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Able to secure entrance to US Government laboratories and facilities, if required
Compensation and Benefits The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in New York is $34.61-$51.92. This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
