What you will do:

The Field Services Natural Resources Manager works in coordination with the Director of Farm Services, Field Quality Manager, and Farm Service Lead, discovering, implementing, and managing policies and programs that impact farm-level activities regarding soil, water, manure, and air.

The Natural Resources Manager is charged with creating the framework and executing a strategy for Tillamook's Natural Resources work.

This work is completed with cross-functionality across our field services team, including the Director of Farm Engagement, the Field Quality Manager, the Environment and Community Impact Team, the Corporate Environmental Manager, and our farmer-owners.

The role will be charged with implementing policies and programs that impact farm-level activities regarding soil, water, manure, and air. The ability to gain a quick grasp of the work required, synthesize it into a digestible format for key stakeholders, and create long-term strategies (2+ years) is required.

Additionally, successful candidates will have a strong background in the ability to execute projects at multiple levels, including on farms and at a corporate level.

Here's a day in the life:

* Leads TCCA soil, air, manure and water program on farms including discovery, development and conducting on-farm assessments for member dairies, including sampling, records and project implementation. Helps members create, implement and monitor for nutrient management, emissions and environmental quality.

* Understands nutrient management practices and helps TCCA members develop, write, and update CAFO plans. Supports member farms for measuring and monitoring ongoing farm level soil, air, manure and water improvement plans as needed.

* Develops strategy, plan and carries out 3rd party validation activities related to TCCA environmental program, as part of the overall TCCA farm evaluation program and Climate Action Plan. This includes grant strategy and 3rd party carbon verification activities.

* Develops and coordinates ongoing training activities to support members related to best management practices of soil, air, manure and water including sampling techniques, metric development and recordkeeping. Ability to teach members in 1/1, small group and seminar trainings related to soil, air, manure and water best management practices.

* Coordinates with Field Manager and Director where appropriate to support on-farm continuous improvement activities.

* Designs and implements systems to maintain records, SOPs, and produce reports, including newsletter articles, Scorecard, and monthly field reports.

* Works with non-member milk suppliers and co-manufacturers where appropriate to ensure their and / or their suppliers on-farm programs, especially those relating to environmental regulations and sustainability, consistently meet TCCA expectations.

* Participate in industry-level activities related to on-farm practices and collaborate with community environmental organizations.

* Maintain appropriate certifications and continuing education activities.

* Support TCCA's high standards and enforce handbook policies with members, including corrective actions if required. This requires a basic understanding of other aspects of the dairy business including animal welfare and milk quality. Training will be provided but the ability to think critically and problem-solve under stress is necessary.

* Establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, farmers, industry partners, and the general public. Participate and lead farm education and farm tours for employees and industry partners, when needed.

* Communicate effectively, verbally and written, with a wide variety of stakeholders, but with a focus on the farmer-owners.

* Utilize a computer with basic (intermediate is preferred) knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. PowerPoint and SharePoint knowledge is a plus.

* Act as a team player and be able to interact with staff at all levels of the company.

* Work under pressure, meet deadlines and be flexible in working on multiple projects simultaneously. Due to the 24/7/365 nature of the dairy business, some on-call hours are required on nights and weekends.

* Demonstrate excellent time-management skills with the ability to work independently with little supervision.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

* Minimum Bachelor's degree in soil, water, crop, engineering, or environmental science is required.

* 5+ years of work experience in the desired field is required.

* Demonstrated project management necessary.

* Knowledge of industry-accepted expectations for soil and nutrient management, air emissions, and water quality.

* Experience in Agricultural fields or a background in Agriculture is preferred.

* Based in Tillamook.
