DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, patrol (on foot or by vehicle) campus parking areas to enforce University parking regulations and manage parking facilities. Check parked vehicles to ensure parking permits are visible and valid and that vehicles are parked legally. Identify parking violations and issue, through License Plate Recognition software, warning notices, citations or attach vehicle immobilizers as required. Provide general information and explain parking regulations to campus community and visitors. In support of University's Motorist Assistance Program, may help charge dead batteries, inflate tires, unlock cars with keys locked inside or supply cars with gas. Designated essential personnel for Campus or Medical Center emergency and hazard response. Assist with traffic control, give directions, place signs and barricades and remove traffic hazards. Work commencement and other events as necessary. Make and keep records of actions taken during shift; prepare neat and detailed citations and reports, including daily shift logs; review and make recommendations on citation adjudication requests; may testify in court as necessary. Clean and maintain department vehicles. Provide assistance to Special Events and Valet support when required.

  • May be assigned overtime or alternate work schedules, such as evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • May be assigned to work Hillcrest Medical Center as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated ability to observe and recall details of incidents; prepare clear, concise and legible documents and reports.

  • General computer knowledge; ability to operate hand-held computerized devices, word processing, Email, Internet and database programs.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications skills. Ability to interact professionally and tactfully with diverse groups of people.

  • Ability to be objective, courteous, and respectful, in dealings with the campus community and visitors, and not allow personal beliefs, prejudices, or biases to interfere with official acts or duties.

  • Valid CA driver's license and ability to operate motor vehicles with manual and automatic transmissions.

  • Ability to learn and provide basic vehicle and motorist assistance such as tire inflation, battery jump start, lockout service and gas transport.

  • Ability to give testimony in court regarding citations issued.

  • Working knowledge and experience with personal computers and office applications, including operation of photocopier, fax machine, calculator, ten-key adding machine and cash register. Ability to operate two-way radio and multi-line telephone

  • Ability to spend long periods of time on foot, standing or patrolling parking lots and walking to campus locations as well as work in and withstand diverse weather conditions.

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills including courtesy, tact, helpfulness, cooperative and collaborative attitude. Ability to remain calm and demonstrate a pleasant demeanor when assisting customers in person and over telephone.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lb. parking barricades and equipment and to operate parking ticket dispensers, electronic fee computers, and ticket reader/validator parking systems.

  • Ability to resolve traffic control conditions during an emergency situation or until supervisor or Community Safety Officer is notified of existing condition. Ability to direct traffic, when needed. Ability to assist in any emergency situation as directed by supervisor or direct Community Safety representative.

  • Demonstrated ability to reorganize schedules quickly to effectively manage rapidly changing priorities and/or emergencies in a busy environment.

  • Knowledge of parking rules and regulations and ability to enforce policies with professionalism and tact, and use common sense and good judgment in assessing situations.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • FBI/DOJ and DMV background checks and clearances required prior to hire.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid California driver license with ability to operate university vehicles and participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program.

  • Obtain a CPR and First Aid Certificate.

  • Must obtain a Post Certification pursuant to 832(a) to make misdemeanor arrests for disabled placard misuse.

  • Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of climates.

  • Must be able to spend long periods of time patrolling on foot, bicycle or vehicle in university parking.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $43,577 - $57,545 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $20.87 - $27.56

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
