Job Summary:

The Field Supervisor plays a vital role as a link between Pk-12 schools and the UW, fostering clear communication among cooperating teachers, student teachers, and various school administrations. Supervisors orient field experience participants, offering support to both student teachers and cooperating teachers in establishing a productive teaching and learning environment. Primary job tasks include observing, guiding, and reviewing student teachers' progress, with a strong emphasis on their engagement with learners, thoughtful planning, effective teaching strategies, varied assessment methods, and professionalism. Supervisors work to facilitate reflective thinking, provide constructive feedback, and actively collaborate on tailored growth plans when necessary. Serving as mentors, field supervisors ensure alignment with program guidelines in field experiences. The selected candidates will attend regular meetings with the cohort leader and fellow supervisors. Workload and Time Commitment: We are hiring to expand our pool of field supervisors. This is primarily a part-time role with appointments varying by semester based on program needs. Most appointments are between 25% - 50% of full time (10 - 20 hours per week) and follow the University's academic calendar. Supervision primarily occurs during school hours, though occasional meetings or professional development may take place outside of these hours. It is expected that supervisors will continue with the program from year to year, based on program needs and their availability, in order to maintain continuity within the program and our pre-service teachers.

Responsibilities: Teaches the quiz, tutorial, discussion or lab section(s) of a course or assists in the development of materials or programs under the direction of an academic staff or faculty member. May perform the same work as a Teaching Assistant, but is not a UW student.
  • 75% Facilitates classroom and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses including assessment of student performance
  • 15% Serves as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations
  • 10% Collaborative Engagement: Engage in professional development, attend essential meetings, and support partnerships and alignment with educational stakeholders

Education:

Preferred Master's Degree in an education related field

Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred. A degree at least one level above the level of instruction required (ie, MS with extensive teaching experience)

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications include: 1. Minimum of three years teaching experience in US schools required. Highly qualified candidates will possess the following knowledge and skills. 1. Teacher certification with experience in content area of supervision; 2. Prior experience as a lead teacher, cooperating teacher, or pre-service teacher supervisor; 3. Experience with English language learners; 4. Experience with Madison area adolescent-aged community organizations 5. Experience with teacher certification programs. 6. Proficiency in digital tools such as Google Docs, spreadsheets, online calendars, and video review platforms (e.g., YouTube, GoReact), essential for organizing, reviewing, and providing feedback on student teacher practices.

Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 15% - 100% This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
