Job Summary - The Field Surveyor – Project Engineer will provide engineering, and surveying decision-making skills for customer projects. This includes working in the field with other engineers, surveyors, millwrights, and other necessary personnel to provide a complete engineering project consistent with customer requirements. Works closely with the Project Manager and General Contractors. Candidates must be flexible regarding work schedule and have an engineering and/or surveying background, or knowledge of large-scale equipment process.

- Independently evaluates, selects, and adapts standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- Acquires general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields, and ability to function on multidisciplinary teams.
- Works on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects.
- Receives general direction on key objectives.
- Receives guidance, when necessary, on unconventional or complex problems, direction on modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria.
- Incumbent will be involved in providing clients engineering solutions for construction and maintenance/reliability issues.
- Independently applies extensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields.
Technical Responsibilities:
- Gathers, analyzes and interprets data.
- Formulates and solves problems.
- Reviews complete work documents for conformity and quality assurance.
- Ensure that program execution is aligned with business priorities
- Identify and mitigate cross-functional risks and issues, and act as a primary escalation point for critical issues.
- Ability to learn computer programs.
- Proficient in utilizing CAD and Microsoft Office. Experience in 3D modeling software.
- Strong math skills, knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, calculus, statistics and their applications.
- The ability to choose the right mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem.
- The ability to demonstrate and perform basic measurements knowledge.
- Ability to read drawing and blueprints.
- Able to check calibration on equipment.
- Ability to interpret various data.
Managerial Responsibilities
- Collaborates with crew personnel, managers, engineers, and administrative staff.
- Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of the daily field crew work.
- Assists with proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects or programs.
- Interacts with clients, customers, officials, contractors, and others.
- Regular and punctual attendance according to scheduled hours.
- Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing other tasks as needed and other projects as assigned by management.

Experience (Required/Preferred):
- 2-3 + years' experience regarding Heavy Construction, Industrial Metrology or Optical Tooling.
- Knowledge in operation and/or use of reporting data gathered from laser trackers, robotic total stations, GPS, or laser scanners.
- Experience with laser trackers and/or laser scanners preferred.
- Proficient in CAD and Microsoft office products, Word, Excel. Experience in 3D modeling software preferred and basic math skills.
- Applicant must have clean driving record and pass a drug screening and criminal background check.
Education (Required/Preferred):
- Bachelor's Degree or related associates degree preferred.
- Graduation from or enrollment in a Apprentice Program
Physical Attributes:
- Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds while utilizing proper lifting techniques and be able to utilize repetitive motions.
- Must be willing and able to travel to customer sites, work overtime and weekends
- Work in a fast-paced environment (for scheduling purposes – may have to be available – (Monday through Sunday – 24 hours a day).
- Be fit for duty (pass a drug screening test and random drug testing).
- Be willing and able to work indoors and outdoors, occasionally in extreme temperatures, various climates and harsh industrial climates.
- Be willing and able to work and navigate construction sites – such as on elevated platforms, maneuver uneven surfaces, climb scaffolding, crawl, climb ladders, deal with heights and work in confined spaces.
- Be able to wear breathing apparatus and/or protective equipment (must be able to pass a fit test for this equipment).
- Be willing and able to wear safety equipment when necessary, such as hard hats, harnesses, safety glasses, steel toe boots, etc.
- Be willing and able to be on their feet for extended periods of time (may have to work sixteen (16) hour work shifts).
- Be able to grasp/work/lift/move required company equipment.
Working Conditions:
- Varying levels of travel up to and including 70% may be required.
- Be eligible to work in the United States and abroad, to include Canada
- Be able to travel through the week and weekends.
- Must possess valid passport and a valid driver's license and legally be able to operate a company vehicle and be insurable through the company's auto insurance.
