JOB SUMMARY:
Under minimal supervision, the Field Tech III (Water) assists in the supervision and training of field crews in the Water Distribution and Water Production Divisions. This position provides efficient and courteous customer service, as part of a crew repair and water distribution system maintenance including related work as required.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Assists Crew Leader and Foreman in the oversight of assigned crews in work related to the water department.
* Repairs water main breaks and leaks on any and all parts of the water distribution system, including leaking or broken curb stops, valves, fire hydrants, and city water mains.
* Ensures safety procedures are followed and equipment is properly used at job sites.
* Assists crews weekly to answer 24-hour emergency maintenance calls.
* Inspects reports of maintenance and construction problems and makes routine inspections for repairs throughout the City.
* Oversees maintenance of the city water towers, wells, and chlorination systems.
* Ensures stock items and repair parts are kept at an operational level.
* Assists other utility companies and contractors in location of our underground services and mains.
* Enforces rules and regulations consistent with Civil Service Provisions and department procedures.
* Ensures regulatory compliance and adherence to TCEQ policies and standards.
* Safely and efficiently operates heavy equipment (Backhoe, front-end loader, excavators, etc.)
* Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
* Knowledge of S.C.A.D.A. based water production systems and automated meter reading systems.
* Knowledge of State and Federal water rules and laws.
* Communicate in English, clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
* Computer skills in data entry and data acquisition.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High school education or equivalent plus three (3) years of related experience is required. Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Must have a valid Class A commercial driver's license with a good driving record. Must have a Class C Water Distribution License, Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester, and Customer Service Inspection or obtain required licenses within one (1) year of employment. Inability to obtain required licenses in the required timeframe may result in discipline up to and including separation of employment. Must attend Trench Safety Training Course, Backhoe Operator Safety Course and Work Zone Traffic Control Training Course.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Lifting loads up to 50 lbs. (measuring up to 36 ); carrying 50 lbs. (up to 15 feet); pushing/pulling 20 lbs.; gripping/rotating hand tools; stair/step climbing (accessing truck); walking; sitting; standing; near/far vision; accessing sewer structures (manholes, trenches, pipes, etc.); working in outside temperatures including excess heat, cold, and precipitation.
