We offer a broad range of professional, engineering, and technical services to the telecommunications and power delivery markets. We have a current opening for a Utility Technician. We support our customers and stakeholders and constantly strive to exceed expectations with all of our services, including Communications Design Services, Energy Distribution Services, Utility Pole Inspection, and Environmental Services.

Responsibilities

+ Collect field data utilizing tripod-mounted GPS units (EOS Arrow Gold), laser range finders (TruPulse 200x), and tablets (iPad Pro 11).

+ Take field notes and complete data collection for fiber optic internet design utilizing existing power infrastructure.

+ Document field data and measure existing utilities and communications attached to power company poles.

+ Utilize ESRI Collector to document and compile collected field data.

+ Walk around rural areas to all the electric power poles owned by the utility.

+ Take laser measurements of poles, including the lowest electric power attachment and heights of transformers, and take photos of poles and electric meters.

+ Follow the power route to update fiber on the power poles for a fiber optic internet design project.

Essential Skills

+ Knowledge of the Utility Industry, specifically power distribution, fiber optic internet, telecommunications, and CATV.

+ Ability to identify components on a power pole, such as cross arms, drip loops, transformers, and communication attachments.

+ Possession of a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

+ Ability to walk long distances through rugged terrain in various weather conditions.

+ Detail-oriented with the ability to adapt and problem solve.

+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software.

+ Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

+ Ability to meet daily data collection goals.

+ Ability to lift/carry at least 25 lbs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ GIS, Utility Technician, Survey, or Civil Engineering Certificate, an Associate degree or a Bachelor's degree.

+ Experience utilizing GPS units and tablets for data collection.

+ Experience with spatial data collection software (ESRI Collector or equivalent).

+ Ability to perform basic troubleshooting of software/hardware in the field.

Work Environment

This role is 100% in the field, requiring walking in rough terrain and up and down hills for 10 hours a day, carrying a tripod, iPad, and laser/GPS equipment. Work is done alone, but within a few miles of other employees. The position involves traveling to various locations for months at a time, including St. Clairsville, Lancaster, and Hillsboro. Overnight travel is required if the job site is more than an hour away. Work hours are Monday to Friday, typically from sunrise to sunset, with a minimum of 40 hours per week and not exceeding 70 hours. In case of severe weather, work may be paused. Personal protective equipment (PPE) includes a high visibility vest and optional safety glasses, but good walking boots are required and not provided.
