Responsible for month end close and reporting activities, assisting with preparation of various financial reports including the CFR and monthly financial statements, and supervising the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions. Provides accurate, helpful and timely customer service to meet the needs of internal and external Arc customers.Essential Functions:
  • Maintains integrity of the general ledger and assists with the management of the accounting function of the agency.
  • Oversees accounts payable function.
  • Supervises month-end closing procedures including completion of general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Responsible for maintenance of fixed asset schedules.
  • Prepares or assists with month end journal entries relating to above areas of responsibility.
  • Assists with financial analysis to support the organization's priorities.
  • Assists with annual audit, pension audit, CFR, budgeting, and other reporting and analysis as required.
  • Reviews accounts receivable balances monthly in conjunction with reconciliations and follows up on outstanding balances to ensure timely collection.
  • Ensure that documentation is available to support the accuracy of financial reporting and to ensure that such information is in conformity with GAAP and complies with other regulatory requirements.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to financial policies and procedures.
  • Developing, maintaining and evaluating a strong environment of internal controls, including documentation of policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for various duties related to banking, insurance, property and reporting.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Nonessential Functions: Participates on agency committees and functions, as needed.Reporting Responsibilities: Reports to: Director of FinanceSupervisory Responsibilities:
  • Hire, manage, evaluate AR/Billing Supervisor, Junior Accountant, AP Specialist, other staff as assigned
  • Proactively develop staff through activities including, but not limited to, goal setting, performance appraisals, regular coaching sessions.
  • Set tone for proactive, timely, high-quality work, delivered with accuracy, integrity, continuous improvement and excellent customer service.
Supervises: AR/Billing Supervisor, Junior Accountant, AP Specialist, other staff as assignedKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong accounting background to include, but is not limited to; general ledger, adjusting journal entries, reconciliation, audits, IRS, Medicaid, and 401(k).
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and advanced formulas.
  • Ability to build relationships across various functional areas with the capability to influence and collaborate.
  • Ability to thrive in a rapidly changing environment, managing multiple shifting priorities.
  • Ability to work with people of varying backgrounds including work force, families and people receiving services.
  • Deal discretely with confidential or sensitive information.
  • Good communication, computer and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Convey an image consistent with the Arc's values.
Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 3-5 years related work experience in a similar position, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with financial management and budgeting within a large, complex nonprofit organization is a plus. Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
