  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or relevant fields, with having completed some related graduate studies, Master's degree preferred
  • 3 years of financial/accounting or auditing experience, including 2 years of experience as a fiscal manager over budgets greater than one million dollars
  • Knowledge of computer based accounting programs/software and applications
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, strong management and supervisory skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Planning
  • Assist the CFO and CEO in formulating the company's future direction and supporting tactical initiatives
  • Monitor the implementation of strategic business plans
  • Assist with the development of financial strategies
  • Assist with the budgeting processes
  • Assist with the development of performance measures and monitoring systems that support the company's strategic direction
  • Provides financial consultation and guidance to the CEO, the Program Directors and Board of Directors in areas related to strategic planning, budgeting, financial statement preparation, account analysis and other financial matters
  • Operations
  • Assist with managing the accounting, legal, tax, and treasury departments
  • Assist with supervising and training accounting and finance staff
  • Manage any third parties to which accounting or finance functions have been outsourced
  • Assist with managing the company's transaction processing systems
  • Implement operational best practices
  • Supervise acquisition due diligence and negotiate acquisitions as needed
  • Engage with financial consultants and auditors as needed
  • Assist with the recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of accounting and payroll staff as required.
  • Serve as a key member of executive leadership team and round table discussion panel.
  • Review and ensure application of appropriate internal controls, GAAP compliance and financial procedures.
  • Ensure timeliness and accuracy of financial and management reporting data for federal funders, foundations, investors and company's board of directors.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Participate in the preparation and timely filing of all local, state and federal tax returns.
  • Ensure GAAP compliance regarding all financial functions.
  • Work with Human Resources to ensure appropriate legal compliance
  • Financial Information
  • Oversee the issuance of financial information
  • Personally review and approve all filings with IRS and State Attorney's Office
  • Report financial results to the b oard of directors as needed
  • Risk Management
  • Develops and updates financial policies and procedures
  • Understand and mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile
  • Monitor (all open) legal issues involving the company, and legal issues affecting the child welfare agencies
  • Assess internal controls procedures of the agency to ensure assets are safeguarded
  • Construct and monitor reliable control systems
  • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage
  • Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies
  • Report risk issues to the audit committee of the board of directors
  • Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations
  • Funding
  • Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts
  • Arrange for debt financing and equity financing
  • Develop and engage with donors
  • Invest funds as needed
  • Third Parties
  • Participate in conference calls with the donors
  • Maintain banking relationships
  • Interact with DCFS appointed representatives and monitors assigned to review or monitor DCFS funded contracts
  • Cash Management
  • Assist with overseeing monthly cash management and AP Department, approve large payables, sign checks upon CFO approval, authorize large wires and ACHs upon CFO approval
  • Review, improve, and implement Accounts Receivable processes and provide guidance relating to the collection process
  • QUALIFICATIONS :Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant fields, Master's Degree Preferred Experience: A minimum of 3 years accounting/financial management experience 2 years or more supervisory experience, preferably in a nonprofit corporationCredential: N/ARequired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 1. Accounting knowledge and aptitude2. Mathematics and language arts proficiency3. Must possess proficiency and skill with utilizing electronic data management and accounting systems4. Must possess the ability to utilize Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Facetime as virtual meeting mediums5. Must adhere to all CARF, DCFS, Federal IRS and State Department of Revenue guidelines and policies6. Passion to make a positive impact on the lives of children and families in the community 7. Ability to provide leadership to achieve finance department goals and objectives.8. Excellent communication and organizational skills9. Able to work collaboratively with teams10. Demonstrated reliability regarding attendance and work performance11. Ability to be creative, flexible and adaptive in all activities and responsibilities 12.
