Finance Manager

UnityPoint Health

FTE: 1.0 (Full-time, 40 hours per week)

Shifts: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

The Manager's major responsibility is broad in scope and includes budget preparation, financial and operational reporting, statistical reporting, business line analysis, pro forma preparation, strategic planning, capital planning, cost report process, grant facilitation, coordination with system functions such as revenue cycle, accounting, AP, CDI, UM, Patient Access, etc. The role has oversight of hospital, provider-based rural health clinics and outpatient mental health operations.

Responsibilities

Leads the organization's budgeting planning and long-range strategic planning process for the hospital, rural-health clinics and outpatient mental health center. Develops short and long-term financial goals that are in concert with the mission and vision of the hospital and system.

Develops financial and operational plans for the areas of responsibility.

Maintains oversight of all financial and operational reporting to senior leadership and operations.

Identifies, initiates, implements, and monitors performance improvement projects in the hospital's finance and accounting processes.

Coordinates, monitors and evaluates the financial performance ensuring the effective efficient utilization of human and material resources.

Works closely with senior leadership, reporting trends in market share operations. Participates in strategic planning, prepares pro formas and conduct profitability and business line analysis.

Leads the 3-5 year capital planning process.

Serves as a liaison between system finance functions (finance planning, accounting, accounts payable, treasury, revenue cycle) and market leaders.

Is knowledgeable of system, hospital, clinic and department compliance requirements for Federal funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid).

Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of the Compliance Officer.

Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Assures organizational and department practice compliance with Federal and local laws and other regulatory bodies.

Purposefully conducts all aspects of the job in an ethical manner in support of the system's commitment to ethical behavior in all areas of personal and professional activity.

Demonstrates leadership ability in providing direction, supervision and support to employees.

Delegates accountability and responsibility appropriately to finance and management team.

Demonstrates extensive knowledge of and effectively prepares for financial audits, cost report audits, grant audits and other regulatory agency surveys or audits.

Implements effective ongoing programs to measure, assess, and improve services provided and to improve the quality of service provided.

Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication abilities.

Ensures practices and processes that result in effective communication throughout the organization.

Facilitates the completion of performance assessments for direct reports at designated time intervals.

Actively improves professional growth through continuing education, involvement in professional organizations and scholarly activities.

Ensures that an effective program is in place for staff development and assessment including orientation, in-service, competency validation and continuing education for departments reporting to this position.

Participates with administration, medical and other leaders in the organization in problem solving/decision making activities.

Demonstrates the ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with employees, management, administration and medical staff.

Formulates and recommends financial policies along with ensuring that the system's financial policies and procedures are in legal compliance through audit, review and recommendation for change.

Works with Human Resources to ensure proper posting of payroll and related benefit expense for all affiliates.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.

CPA, MBA, or CHFP designation is desirable.

Experience:

Must have a minimum of five (5) years experience in healthcare finance setting.

License(s)/Certification(s):

Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. CPA (If Desired)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Must have verbal and writing skills with the ability to communicate effectively with staff, the public, physicians, and others. Personal computer and Microsoft Office Suite skills a must. Must have extensive knowledge in finance or health related finance with an accounting background. Mature attitude and responsibility because of the nature of hospital information, above average initiative, normal level of ingenuity, maximum accuracy. Must be capable of. Utilizing all appropriate finance software systems.
