Compensation:$50,000-$52,000/annuallyCompensation Type:ExemptEmployment Type:RegularScheduled Weekly Hours:40Grade:Department:Financial AidPosition SummaryThe Financial Aid Office, reporting directly to the Director of Financial Aid, is part of a highly motivated team that provides first-class student-focused support assisting and advising students and families through the financial aid process. This position provides a sophisticated understanding of financial aid policies and procedures and the ability to explain these policies and procedures to students, prospective students, and their families. The Financial Aid Officer uses independent analysis and analytical skills to administer financial aid programs within guidelines and regulations.Duties & Responsibilities
  • Utilizes workshops, individual appointments, web tools, email, social media, and telephone to disseminate accurate and clear information while counseling, advising and directly supporting students and their families with financial aid and related processes.
  • Maintains a current working knowledge of financial aid, billing and payment options, VA Benefits, Admissions, Academic Advising, and Registrar processes and how they relate to the student's financial aid to fully and accurately advise them.
  • Analyzes student files to make an independent determination regarding eligibility for financial aid and then reviews, awards, verifies, and processes the student's financial aid using the BANNER system, ensuring funds are awarded in accordance with Federal, State, and Institutional regulations and policies.
  • Independently conducts analysis on students who have had their Free Application for Federal Student Aid selected for verification, determines and requests additional information as needed, submits corrections to the Department of Education, evaluates eligibility, and changes awards if needed.
  • Ensuring that information is efficiently communicated within the financial aid office, to other departments within the college, to all applicable stakeholders, and to students/families. Presents at and participates in various programs on and off campus as required and assists with the development of FAQs and knowledge databases as required.
  • Collaborates with other offices and departments to provide appropriate resources to students, and in developing strategies that support the goals and objectives of the department, division, and college in enrollment, retention, student satisfaction, and other related areas.
  • Reads, interprets, and applies federal and state regulations and school policies as they relate to student financial aid, ensuring compliance and deadlines are met.
  • Monitors students' satisfactory academic progress and adherence to academic degree programs to maintain eligibility for federal, state, and institutional aid programs, and communicates with students when eligibility is lost.
  • Responds to inquiries researches and resolves problems related to transactions handled by the unit and serves as a liaison with other constituents in the resolution of day-to-day administrative and operational issues.
  • Any and all other job duties as assigned.
Other duties and responsibilities as determined by assignments:
  • Responsible for coordinating all activities related to federal and state student loans, including but not limited to, certifying, origination, disbursement review, monthly and annual reconciliation of funds, and the sending and receiving of electronic data files utilizing government systems such as COD and NSLDS, and communicating with loan servicers.
  • Conducts loan default prevention management that includes evaluating student indebtedness to determine the appropriateness of continued borrowing, conducts loan entrance and exit counseling, regularly monitors delinquent borrower reports, and performs due diligence in contacting delinquent loan borrowers by telephone, email, texting, postal mail, and social media.
  • Works directly with State and other outside agencies that provide student scholarships and grants, assists students with the application process, reviews, awards, certifies, maintains payment rosters, conducts disbarment review, monthly and annual reconciliation and reporting of funds for all qualified applicants.
  • Manages all activities related to Federal Pell Grant processing, including but not limited to, certifying, origination, disbursement review, monthly and annual reconciliation, and the sending and receiving of electronic data files utilizing government systems such as COD.
  • Oversees all aspects of the federal work-study program including supervising students working in the financial aid office, communicating with the payroll department to ensure student wages are recorded in the BANNER system, monthly and annual reconciliation of the fund, allotment and required work programs are properly and full expended.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Associates Degree
  • Experience in the educational field
  • One year of customer service/support experience within an office environment.
  • Valid driver's license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in any field. Education may be substituted for two years of experience working within a college financial aid or related office. Experience must be relevant to the essential functions of this job description.
  • Experience working with Ellucian Banner System, and knowledge of Financial Aid Module an asset.
  • Prior experience working in student financial aid in a higher education setting.

  • Ability to effectively give presentations in front of a live audience.
  • Create and conduct training for staff and students.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:•Repetitive hand motions and prolonged use of computer;•Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds;•Sitting for extended periods of time.WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is normally performed in a typical office environment, but does require occasional out-of-office travel.
