Department: Financial AidJob Status: Full-timeFLSA Status: Hourly/NonExemptReports To: Director of Financial AidWork Schedule: M-F 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. generally with occasional weekendsPOSITION SUMMARY The Financial Aid Specialist is responsible for maintaining a positive environment in the reception area of the Financial Aid Office, greeting the public and providing general financial aid information. Requirements PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate staff calendars and appointments.
  • Responsible for providing other office assistance as needed.
  • Responsible for answering incoming phone calls to provide general information and assistance.
  • Responsible for processing and loading all necessary financial aid documents into Colleague.
  • Responsible for processing mail.
  • Maintain an on-going understanding of computer programs necessary for the initial financial aid counseling and information dissemination.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of state, federal and institutional regulations.
  • Maintain a complete understanding of the scholarship process as it relates to federal and state financial aid.
  • Participate in appropriate professional organizations.
  • Guide and monitor the work of student employees in filing documents and regarding mail.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.); Colleague and Navigate
  • Ability to communicate effectively, appropriately and professionally.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
  • Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, College community and public.
  • Ability to detect and correct grammatical and spelling errors in written correspondence.
  • Ability to maintain files accurately, in paper and in software programs.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to effectively supervise and motivate students as appropriate.
  • Ability to accurately process applications.
  • Ability to understand and disseminate information about federal and state regulations.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONSEducation High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED). Experience Prior experience in an office setting preferred, with prior customer service and financial aid experience a plus.
