Salary: $51,226.00 - $60,214.00 Annually Location : Dearborn, MI Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 202200255 Division: Financial Aid Department: Financial Aid Opening Date: 11/21/2023 Closing Date: Continuous Position Description SummaryHenry Ford College presents an opportunity for a Financial Aid Specialist. The Financial Aid Specialist reports to the Assistant Director of Financial Aid and is responsible for providing financial aid advising, processing/packaging of financial aid requests, and assisting in the administration of federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs. The Financial Aid Specialist, under the direction of the Assistant Director of Financial Aid, has the responsibility of overseeing all (or most) aspects of one or more financial aid program responsibilities, such as one or more state programs or one or more federal processes. The Financial Aid Specialist also provides customer service by responding to e-mail inquiries, phone inquiries, walk-in traffic, and appointments. Hours: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM - Monday through Friday, with some Mondays and/or Thursdays 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM as determined by department. Some evening and/or weekend work may be required. A hybrid work schedule may be available as determined by the department. Core Competencies and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • One year of work experience in financial aid program administration and customer service.
  • Thorough understanding of federal financial aid regulations related to verification, Satisfactory Academic Progress, and the processing of federal financial aid.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.
  • Experience working with an integrated administrative computer software system.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 360 (focus on Excel)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities including but not limited to Essential duties and responsibilities including but not limited to:
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of federal and state financial aid regulations.
  • Perform and understand needs analysis procedures/processes.
  • Review financial aid application documents to verify accuracy and completeness.
  • Process applications for financial aid, including needs analysis/assessment, verification, determining financial aid eligibility, and packaging/awarding of federal, state, and institutional aid programs.
  • Administer/apply the standards of satisfactory academic progress for all financial aid programs and counsel students as to their compliance.
  • Exercise professional judgment to resolve complex issues relating to student financial aid.
  • Serve as a resource to other professional, administrative, and clerical staff members in interpreting financial aid regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Counsel, advise, and provide written, as well as telephone, and in-person, communications to students, parents, and outside offices/agencies on all phases of financial aid office operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Serve on committees to assist in drafting and/or developing guidelines and procedures related to the processing and delivery of financial aid.
  • Act as a liaison between the Financial Aid Office and selected College departments/units/agencies as assigned. Responsibilities may include information sharing, coordination of programs between departments, or administering/processing financial aid for selected groups of students.
  • Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Financial Aid, oversee all (or most) aspects of one or more financial aid program responsibilities, such as one or more state programs or one or more federal processes. This responsibility may include verifying eligibility, awarding, billing, and reconciliation.
  • Present information related to financial aid eligibility and requirements to students, prospective students, and parents at outreach events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
