Job Summary The Financial Controller (Assistant Director of Finance) is responsible for the day-to-day administrative function of the Finance department, overseeing the accounting procedures, internal controls (implementing, monitoring, enhancing), month-end closing activities, balance sheet reconciliation, and generation of accurate and timely financial reports. Their subordinates include: AP/Cost Control, Payroll/General Cashier, and Income Audit. This position is based in Bozeman, Montana and the successful candidate is expected to be on property at One&Only Moonlight Basin in Big Sky, MT at least 2 times per week or unless otherwise directed. Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervises directly or indirectly the Finance department staff and manages the overall Finance operation
  • Reviews and approves payment documents, checks, telegraphic transfers, online payments, and petty cash vouchers
  • Reviews and approves purchase requests, purchase orders, and contracts in the absence of the Director, Finance
  • Reviews the daily General Cashier's Report and approves the same in the General Cahier's program
  • Monitors the day-to-day operations of Payroll, enforcing accurate daily, bi-weekly, and monthly payroll processing to ensure correct salary is received by all colleagues in a timely manner
  • Manage weekly labor management meetings with the Director, Finance
  • Approves payroll transactions in the payroll program such as ticket requests, salary advances, and family & friends visit authorizations
  • Reviews the monthly payroll accrual requirements for annual vacation leave, vacation ticket, long service leave, incentive pay, and pension fund contribution
  • Reviews the service charge distribution schedule to be included in the monthly payroll
  • Assures that all accounting transactions are appropriately authorized and charged to the correct accounts / departments
  • Reviews the weekly cash balance for submission to Corporate Support and always ensures a sufficient cash balance
  • Supervises the monthly closing processes to ensure timely completion of closing activities in accordance with the monthly closing calendar and timely submission of reports to Corporate Support
  • Reviews and approves monthly journal entries
  • Reviews trial balance and approves reconciliation of balance sheet accounts monthly
  • Reviews the monthly bank reconciliation statements and investigates errors and anomalies
  • Responsible for producing the monthly Management Accounts, Executive Summary report, and other reporting requirements
  • Reviews all departmental P&Ls and attends the monthly financial review with department heads
  • Participates in the monthly conference call with Corporate Support to review the results for the month
  • Liaises with all department heads and outside parties such as vendors, banks, etc. to resolve issues timely and effectively
  • Liaises with Corporate Support on monthly financial reporting package, budget, forecast and other matters
  • Coaches staff on internal control and accounting procedures and ensures compliance with established policies and procedures
  • Assists in budgeting and forecasting exercise
  • Assures internal control compliance and monitors internal audit reports to ensure internal audit issues are addressed and action plans are carried out
  • Assists the internal and external auditors to ensure timely completion of audit activities
  • Reviews the annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS
  • Reviews the Management Letter from external auditor, provides management comments, and coordinates with relevant sections / departments for compliance or implementation
  • Performs all Finance department duties in the absence of the Director, Finance
  • Performs ad-hoc activities/analysis and projects as directed by the Director, Finance and/or General Manager
  • Takes an active role in the selection process when recruiting Finance colleagues
  • Prepares job descriptions, annual goals, and performance evaluations of colleagues
Skills, Experience & Educational Requirements
  • Minimum of 2 years' previous experience as a Financial Controller or Assistant Financial Controller in a luxury hotel or resort is required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related field is preferred
  • International Accounting qualification (i.e. ICAEW/ CPA from an accredited institution) is preferred
  • Proficient with accounting systems, common hotel systems, Microsoft Office programs, email, and the internet
  • Excellent attention to detail and demonstrated success in previous financial roles
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure with high level of accuracy
  • Ability to delegate, be a strong team leader and excellent negotiation skills
  • Ability to easily identify all aspects of an issue and be able to make good decisions quickly
  • Friendly and approachable demeanor and the ability to have a positive outlook on all matters
