Harvard University Position Title: Asst Director of Financial Aid Req ID: 67614BR School or Unit: Faculty of Arts and Sciences Description: Position Description In conjunction with the Associate Director, responsible for ensuring compliance with and best practices for Title IV regulations pertaining to the administration of federal, state, institutional, and private financial aid programs, keeping abreast of frequently changing requirements. As back-up to the Associate Director, oversee the Title IV federal aid programs, including the awarding of aid, need analysis, quality control standards, loan origination, and disbursement of funds. Manage student and parent loan programs from institutional, federal, state, and private lenders. Determine funding levels, counsel students and parents, monitor awards and eligibility, and conduct monthly reconciliation for federal and institutional programs in coordination with other Harvard offices. Oversee and conduct exit interview loan counseling sessions for seniors with loan debt, including identifying and scheduling students and creating counseling materials and exit loan information. Provide oversight of outside awards and Pell grant awarding and reconciliation, as well as report to the Department of Education the Verification of V1, V4, and V5 documents. Supervise two staff. Develop content for and facilitate department communications and trainings (e.g., website, print materials) related to federal guidelines and regulation changes. Assist with completing Return of Title IV calculations for students based on federal regulations. Work with Student Accounts and the Student Loan Office to assess and deliver Credit Balance refunds to students. Oversee financial aid audit in conjunction with Associate Director. Determine and calculate financial aid awards, assessing income/assets and analyzing complex financial information. Serve as a member of the Financial Aid Committee and review appeal and reconsideration requests. Participate in the Officer of the Day schedule to respond to student and family inquiries, as well as admitted and incoming student events. Serve on University-wide committees pertaining to financial aid compliance and training. Collaborate with key partners, such as University Financial Services, Development, and Information Technology Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required Minimum of 5 years' relevant work experience Additional Qualifications and Skills Prior experience with compliance and regulations, including federal reporting, loan systems, and related tools, preferred. Extensive knowledge of PowerFAIDS and associated reporting tools, as well as advances proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Demonstrated leadership skills, including ability to build rapport across teammates, motivate others, foster genuine and meaningful collaboration, and share knowledge effectively. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) including ablity to present to large groups. Strong customer service, organizational, and analytical and problem-solving skills; attention to detail. Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment; independent initiative, excellent judgment, and ability to keep information confidential. Proficiency with computers and office productivity tools a must; access to internet in order to work remotely as needed. Working Conditions Work is typically performed in an office setting, but may be remote, as directed by FAS. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (including, but not limited to, CT, MA, MD, ME, NH, NY, RI, and VT) Attendance at local, regional, and national conferences to stay informed on any policy changes is expected.
