Financial Economist (Associate) - competitive salary - New York, United States (hybrid)

Chi Square Economics is partnered with an international economic and financial consulting firm who is seeking to expand their team in their US headquarters office, New York City. This position is at Associate level and will focus primarily on financial projects requiring econometric, statistical, or other quantitative analysis techniques.

You will be joining the securities litigation unit of the business and will work closely with seasoned litigation experts and consultants helping provide industry expertise on complex disputes in the financial sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting detailed quantitative and qualitative analysis of market manipulation allegations as part of expert consulting mandates
  • Extracting, cleaning, processing, manipulating, and managing data for data-heavy projects
  • Writing comprehensive reports that succinctly summarize key findings, and verbally presenting key points to clients, ensuring their understanding
  • Suggesting ways to enhance the quality of our analyses, with opportunities to develop new business initiatives
  • Staying updated on market developments to generate new case ideas

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in economics/financial economics/statistics or related quantitative fields; holding a Master's degree is a plus
  • Relevant experience following educational studies, preferably in the economic consulting space or a regulator
  • A keen interest in financial markets and a strong belief in fair and transparent markets
  • Proficiency with data analysis software and programming experience (e.g., Python, R, Excel)
  • Hands-on experience in complex/big data manipulation, management, and analysis -- Experience with database programs (e.g., SQL, Postgres) is a plus
  • Solid understanding of data analysis techniques and statistical inference
  • Able to work in their New York based office, with professional flexibility for a hybrid work model
