About the job:
Seeking a highly motivated, detail oriented individual to work in the Accounting department of the New York office of a multinational financial services group based out of Spain.
Job Description:
* Prepare legal entity financial statements and the monthly results presentation, investigating significant variances on Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss and providing explanations for variances.
* Prepare the monthly package for the Asset-Liability Committee, which includes information about funding sources, asset-liability gap and NY loan portfolio.
* Prepare monthly reconciliations and reports, ensure reconciling items are cleared on a timely basis and escalate aged items, obtaining explanations and target dates for clearance of those items.
* Assist in the month-end closing process.
* Prepare invoices for Service Level Agreements with all US and foreign affiliates. Prepare calculations, true-ups and ensure settlement and booking of entries are done appropriately. Understand the reasons for the variances month over month and be able to answer questions from the affiliates on monthly charges.
* Prepare journal entries for expense related items of the legal entity, including payroll, travel & entertainment and accounts payable, book estimates of expense provisions and analyze data for cost allocation of vendor invoices.
* Review & adjust allocation of indirect expenses to the business lines annually.
* Familiar with expense systems (Workday, Concur, AMEX Travel) to create reports for cost monitoring.
* Ongoing analysis of expenses by business, product, department, employee, etc.
* Assist the Procurement team in creating expense budgets by vendor and work with the FP&A team to align the budget with the Official budget of the group.
* Assist FP&A team in tracking / investigating expense variances by type, lines of business and legal entity, and track/investigate any variances between budget & actuals.
* Review expense policies and monitor adherence to policies, control employee expenses each month by type (airfare, cars, hotels, meals, entertainment, cell phone, etc.) and escalate policy violations.
* Work with Accounts Payable to identify issues with employee expenses and control corporate credit card limits, helping in the communication between corporate card services and employees when issues occur.
* Other ad-hoc projects, as needed.
Qualifications
* Minimum of 7 years performing accounting responsibilities
* Bachelors in Accounting
* Experience in the Financial industry (Banking preferred)
* Possess knowledge of U.S. GAAP, standard accounting concepts, practices and procedures and ability to understand and solve complex accounting issues
* Proficient in Microsoft Excel (formulas and macros), Word, and PowerPoint
* Quick learner, self-motivated, organized, problem solver, analytical

With respect to this position in our New York Office, the expected base salary ranges from $100,000 to $130,000. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
