Overview As a Level 1 Trauma Center, this position is responsible to perform all registration functions, including the creation or confirmation of a medical record and account number. This position expedites and provides healthcare access through the accurate gathering of demographic, sponsorship, or guardian data, insurance, financial, and statistical information from a variety of sources, i.e. patients, patient's families, physicians, physician office staff, county and/or government agencies. This position is responsible to process patient/observation admissions for hospital emergency departments. This position ensures reimbursement for services being rendered through electronic verification of insurance eligibility/benefits, obtaining insurance authorization within a required time frame, identification, and collection of patient financial obligation. This position will use third-party payer resources, such as websites, to verify eligibility, gain authorizations and check the financial obligation of the patient. Takes an active role in decreasing account receivables by following established guidelines, regulations, and policies during the registration process to increase the facilitys first pass yield percentage and decrease account denials. Contributes to the facility point of service by creating estimates and collecting any monies due at the time service is rendered. This position is responsible for obtaining the necessary regulatory signatures for consent for treatment, financial responsibility agreements, and HIPAA requirements. Consults and communicates with other hospital departments as required to maintain efficient patient care. This position is responsible to use the Passage point system to screen visitors & create security badges. This position will work scheduled weekend shifts on a rotating basis in addition to regularly scheduled shifts. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. One (1) year of clerical experience in a patient or public contact setting OR six months experience in a health-related business office or third-party payor group. College-level work and a working knowledge of medical and insurance industry terminology are preferred. Demonstrated work experience that required performing multiple tasks simultaneously, recognizing and adjusting to changing priorities, making timely decisions with good judgment, and working independently of direct supervision. Proficiency in applications as well as demonstrated ability to work with multiple computer systems is preferred. Demonstrate exceptional verbal analytical and written communication skills. Must be adaptable, tactful, and able to work well under pressure. Must demonstrate an understanding of the first impression position and the need for appropriate dress, attitude, and concern associated with the position. Ability to work scheduled weekend shifts on a rotating basis in addition to regularly scheduled shifts. Motor Vehicle Operator Designation: Will operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose as a 'non-frequent driver' NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job.
