Description Child Action, Inc. (CAI) is a private, non-profit corporation created in 1976 to promote the education and social welfare of children and families and to advocate on their behalf. Our programs include resource and referral services for families seeking child care, child care subsidies for qualifying families, recruitment and professional development of the child care workforce, and family education and support. We are seeking individuals who are highly organized, have the ability to multi-task, provide excellent customer service, have good problem solving skills and have the ability to understand the problems and issues facing families from a variety of ethnic and economic communities. Position Purpose & Scope: Under the general direction of the Assistant Controller, the Financial Systems & Accounting Manager is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of Fiscal Management Systems (FMS). The incumbent performs the allocations of fund, cost center and profit center and provides support for monthly financial close, forecasting processes and annual budget. The incumbent provides customer service to other departments and agency vendors and is responsible for maintaining a variety of departmental fiscal records, computer-based accounting systems, and general accounting systems in the maintenance of fiscal and statistical records. The Financial Systems & Accounting Manager is responsible for knowing all guidelines, regulations and policies developed or set forth by the Board of Directors, Agency Directors, the State Department of Education/Child Development Division, and the State Department of Social Services, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Federal Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and Unified Grant Guidelines (UGG) guidelines. Typical Tasks:
  • Manage and satisfy audit controls, GAAP accounting, and federal /state government program funding requirements
  • Coordinate with Finance users to understand functional requirements to identify and develop solutions
  • Spearhead all initiatives for system integrations and automation opportunities between systems (bill payment systems, credit card systems, accounting systems, payroll systems, and lead generation systems)
  • Provide expertise in real time consolidation and allocations functionality
  • Validate and document configurations, enhancements, development and underlying processes
  • Lead in the development of best practice principles to facilitate change management and end user adoption of new technologies and processes
  • Manage the daily support, maintenance and continuous improvement of environment
  • Update production settings for cost center allocations, profit center allocations, and fund allocations
  • Support monthly financial close and forecasting processes as well as the annual budget and long-range planning cycles
  • Provide input on and oversight of internal processes with respect to CAI master data, hierarchies and reporting
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
RequirementsEducation & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in a field that develops skills related to typical duties; and
  • Minimum of 10 years work experience with finance or accounting, preferably in a government/nonprofit
Qualifications, Knowledge, Abilities:
  • Previous Sage Intacct, Divvy, OnePoint and ADP systems experience is a plus
  • Must have data query and report writing capabilities. Knowledge of SQL preferred.
  • Experience collaborating cross functionally to implement new systems and tools is preferred
  • Experienced in using the Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project)
  • Identify opportunities to leverage technology and build on the Financial Systems platform
  • Manage and support the organization for testing all custom reports and programs developed by IT for the Fiscal
  • Highly self-motivated, work ethic driven with keen attention to detail and exceptional customer orientation
  • Experience working for large company and within a matrix organization
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • PMP or other professional project management experience
  • Excellent communication skills, effective in managing internal team members as well as working with other departments
  • Knowledge of operational characteristics, services, and activities of an accounting program
  • Principles and practices of non-profit agency financial management including general and governmental accounting, budgeting, auditing, and reporting functions as well as GAAP, FASB and UGG
  • Information technology hardware and software related to financial systems
  • Knowledge of budget and financial forecasting
  • Practices and methods of non-profit agency finance
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Ability to understand the problems and issues facing families from a variety of ethnic and economic communities
Physical Factors:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up 15 lbs at times.
  • Works in an office setting. Work is primarily sedentary but may also work outdoors at field sites on an incidental basis and requires light physical effort; may require greater physical effort on an incidental basis.
  • Possess visual capability and digital dexterity to operate a computer and other standard office equipment
  • Make fine visual distinctions upon proofreading written documents and viewing information on a computer screen
  • May be subject to various job demands such as high volume of work and tight deadlines
