The main duties include, but are not limited to, collection of delinquent debt owed to the City of Lynchburg. We are looking for someone who is assertive, goal-oriented and a competitive type who likes a challenge. They should not shy away from confrontation and be able to problem solve to reach resolutions. A good collector should adhere to the office policies and procedures as well as be able to interpret Virginia State and Lynchburg City code. The individual must be a multi-tasker who is motivated and can manage their time well while analyzing situations quickly and delivers information using strong communications skills. The perfect candidate should be able to deliver customer service under difficult circumstances and without generating complaints. Successful applicant must have previous collection experience and be able to work in a fast pace, team-oriented environment. Essential Duties ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.
- Provide professional and courteous customer service to internal and external customers in person, over the phone, and in writing
- Fulfill a citizen's need and/or request while providing accurate, valid, and complete information to the citizen
- Handle citizen's request and/or complaints to reach an appropriate solution while clearly explaining the resolution to the citizen
- Listen and respond to citizen's needs and/or concerns
- Record accurate information on customer's accounts
- Utilize City resources within employee's control to assist internal and external customers efficiently and effectively
- Interpret and follow Office Policies and Procedures, Virginia State Code, and City Code
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
- Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.
- When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.

- High School Diploma or GED required
- At least two years of collections and customer service experience.
- Microsoft Word and Excel experience.
- Skill in specific job-related application and equipment.
Additional Requirements Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days if employment.
