Basic Qualifications
  • Massachusetts Journeyman or Master Electrician license for minimum period of five years.
  • Valid State driver's license and driving history satisfactory to meet Campus Services standards.
  • Minimum five years experience installing and maintaining high and low voltage systems with recent experience in the installation, operation, and repair of all types of building fire alarm systems centralized battery-powered lighting systems, emergency generators, remote central station fire alarm monitoring equipment, and associated devices.
Additional Qualifications and SkillsAdditional Qualifications:
  • Must have experience and proficiency in the use of industry-recognized diagnostic testing equipment.
  • Must be able to perform mathematical calculations required to accurately size and install system components and devices.
  • Must be able to read and interpret detailed plans, drawings, specifications, operating manuals and other written materials associated with this trade.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and interact with peers and customers.
Technology Skills Required: Demonstrated proficiency in desktop and smartphone technology platforms and applications. Familiarity with equipment diagnostics, bar-coding, and related technologies desired.Special Requirements:
  • Required to supply a complete set of hand tools.
  • Required to wear a clean, neat uniform and maintain a professional image at all times.
  • Required to wear safety equipment and clothing when appropriate and/or required.
  • Must be willing to work in research laboratory environments and around hazardous materials.
  • Must be willing to accept a reasonable amount of overtime in support of group business needs.

  • Installs, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs building life-safety equipment and systems, including fire alarm systems, centralized emergency lighting systems and remote central station monitoring equipment.
  • Performs all installation, maintenance, inspection and testing in accordance with applicable standards and requirements of the National Fire Protection Association, Life Safety Code (Massachusetts State Building Code) and/or established compliance requirements of the Authority Having Jurisdiction.
  • Interprets and updates mechanical plans, drawings and prints as necessary.
  • Required to assist in the inspection and testing of other fire safety systems including fire alarms, emergency generators, extinguishers and suppression systems, fire escapes, and hydrants.
  • Performs other core skills of the trades and related duties as required.
  • Must observe and comply with all standard safety codes and practices and perform work in accordance with recognized trade and University standards.
  • Assists and advises customers on progress / status of work and provides responsive and effective customer support in all phases of FSS and building maintenance operations.
  • May be assigned to work independently or as part of a multi-trade team under the guidance and direction of the FSS Supervisor, and/or Working Foreperson.
  • May be assigned to perform any or all aspects of the FMO fire electrician position.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to stoop and bend repeatedly and work on hands and knees and other awkward positions for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift up a minimum of 50 lbs. and to push, pull and transport piping and equipment in excess of 200 lbs. with others (may use chain falls and come alongs for heavier lifting).
  • Must be able to routinely walk to and from various buildings or work sites carrying tools, equipment and other essentials.
  • Must be able to work alone, in confined spaces and extreme temperatures, climb multiple sets of stairs, work off ladders, staging, lifts or other elevated platforms.
