Description
The City of Richmond Police Department, Major Crimes & Forensics Division, is seeking an organized and detail-oriented individual for the position of Firearms Administrator. This position inspects and documents all firearms seized or collected by the City of Richmond Police Department. Incumbents are responsible for examination of each firearm for functionality and test firing. Documentation of the examination/test fire results will be used for submission to Richmond City courts.
Supervision Exercised/Received:
* Exercised: This classification typically does not supervise other employees.
* Received: This classification typically reports to a Civilian Supervisor.
* Note: Other reporting relationships may apply.
Successful completion of an interview, thorough background investigation, which may include a polygraph exam and drug/alcohol screening, is required. Please note that the Police Department background process may take up to 45 -60 days. An applicant disqualified from the Police background process may reapply a year after disqualification.
Duties include but are not limited to
TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: These duties and percentage of time are a representative sample; position assignments may vary. Duties include but are not limited to:
* Inspects and documents all firearms seized by the Richmond Police Department.
* Examines firearms for functionality and test fires firearms at department's indoor range.
* Enters cartridge casings into BrassTrax (NIBIN).
* Corresponds with patrol, case detectives, Forensics and Commonwealth Attorneys regarding firearm examinations.
* Gives courtroom testimony regarding firearms testing and results.
* Keeps a record of stock ammunition used for test firing.
* Compiles reports explaining examinations/results
* Uploads all documentation into OneSolution/Case Management
Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
* Associate's degree in criminal justice, forensic science, or a related field
* Two years of related experience
* An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
* None required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents must be able to perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks, with frequent interruptions and under time constraint. While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach extending hands and arms in any direction, stand, push, pull, lift, finger (picking, pinching or otherwise working primarily with fingers), grasp applying pressure to an object with fingers or palms, talk, see, and hear. The employee is frequently required to climb, balance, stoop, crouch, crawl, walk, feel and use substantial repetitive motions of the wrists, hands and fingers. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
