Firearms Processor - IMPDPrint ( Processor - IMPDSalary$36,420.80 AnnuallyLocationVarious IMPD Locations, INJob TypeFull TimeJob Number08396DepartmentDepartment ofPublic Safety-IMPDOpening Date05/24/2024Closing Date12/1/2024 11:59 PM Eastern+ Description+ BenefitsPosition SummaryPosition is responsible for assisting customers in the release of firearms and provides information on the steps needed to obtain a firearm's permit.Position ResponsibilitiesAnswers, screens, researches, informs, advises, records, processes and follow-up all customer requests efficiently and expeditiously as received by telephone, mail or personally from citizens, elected officials, agencies, and City/County employees. Accurately log and update service requests.Processes information for release of firearms confiscated by IMPD and MCSD. Research court information, criminal histories and release as authorized.Evaluates individuals' ability to legally possess a firearm based upon applicable federal, state, and local laws.Processes and physically identify case guns, record information, conduct IDACS/NCIC checks, provide necessary paperwork and information to appropriate individuals (detectives, officers, prosecutors, etc.) on illegal and stolen firearms.Processes and retrieves information by computer from pawn cards.Processes all paperwork and store information on firearm applications.This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities that management may deem necessary from time to time.QualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years' work experience and/or education in customer service, records maintenance or clerical field and the ability to type 30 words per minute. Must be able to obtain and maintain IDACS/NCIC Certification. Must possess effective communication and computer operation skills. Must be able to understand and be in compliance with department policies and procedures, local ordinances, and state and federal laws, especially as pertaining to firearms release/permit processes and legal firearm possession. Position requires strict confidentiality. Must be able to pass pre-employment screening (background investigation, drug screen). Position requires submission to random drug tests.Independent JudgmentActions are controlled by established laws, ordinances, and policies and procedures. Position requires a high degree of confidentiality. Errors could result in monetary loss to the department, jeopardize officer safety and prevent efficient customer service. Tact, diplomacy, and discretion are required when dealing with citizens, officers and others that may be involved in the firearms release/permit process.
