POSITION SUMMARY

The Flight Paramedic is fully engaged in the transportation of pre-hospital and inter-facility patients for definitive care and maintains positive relationships with area hospitals, physicians, EMS agencies, and the general public. The Flight Paramedic provides high quality care including assessment, triage, and treatment utilizing standards and guidelines established by First Flight to establish and prioritize the care needed for safe transport of the critical patient to the appropriate facility.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Collaborates with physicians and other departments in determining patient needs for nursing care and treatment planning. Actively listens in order to identify problems.

2. Serves as a role model, educator and clinical resource. Participates in special projects or performs other duties as assigned.

3. Communicates educational needs to the Flight Program Nurse Manager.

4. Demonstrates an understanding of emergency procedures and First Flight safety requirements; maintains a hazard free work environment.

5. Anticipates change for patient care, department and organizational needs.

6. Facilitates communication among department Director, Flight Program Nurse Manager, Managers, nursing staff and other ancillary departments.

7. Participates in Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance.

8. Collaborates with the Flight Program Nurse Manager to ensure flight team compliance with guidelines of accrediting and regulatory agencies, flight team standards of care and practice, and organization policies and procedures.

9. Demonstrates age-specific skill competency in clinical practice environment.

10. Demonstrates dependability and reliability in completing work assignments and exhibits good work habits and decorum with respect to attendance.

11. Available to meet critical operational demands.

12. Assists the Flight Program Nurse Manager in the selection, development and retention of staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* Education: Associate's Degree or Technical Certificate in an EMS Paramedic Program.

* Certification:

* Must hold active National or State of Florida Paramedic Certification upon hire and maintain

* Must hold current American Heart Association ACLS and BLS upon hire and maintain

* Must hold current PALS or ENPC upon hire and maintain

* Must obtain initial NRP certification within six (6) months of hire and maintain

* Must obtain PHTLS/ITLS certification within six (6) months of hire and maintain

* Must obtain Department of Transportation Air Medical Crew Core Curriculum certificate within six (6) months of hire and maintain

* Work Experience: Minimum of 6000 hours experience as a Paramedic over the last five years with an Advanced Life Support (ALS) agency

* Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

* Proficient in Microsoft Office - Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint

* Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision

* Strong critical thinking skills.

* Strong communication skills and professional presence.

* Ability to maintain composure in a stressful field environment

* Ability to operate multiple band radio communication systems

* Ability to work with complex medical equipment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Certification:

* Critical Care Transport Certification (FP-C)

* FCCS / PFCCS certification

* Work Experience:

* Rotor Wing or Fixed Wing Critical Care Transport

* Ground Critical Care Transport

* Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

* Proficiency with GPS navigation

* EMS tailored EMR/PCR

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Heavy)

* Physically agile; requires walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching majority of the shift

* Heavy work that frequently includes lifting or moving objects up to 100 pounds or more with or without assistance

* May require moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders or over head

* May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift

* May be exposed to inside environments and outside environments with extreme temperatures, air contamination, dirt, grease or water

* May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC Guidelines.

* May operate various types of manual and motorized equipment used in the transportation of materials

* May be exposed to intense noise or vibration and awkward or confined work position

* Communicating with others to exchange information.

* Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks

* Workspace may vary from open to confined; on site or remote

* May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle

* Sustained wearing of a safety helmet with night vision goggles for an extended period
