JOB SUMMARY:Work in collaboration with the First-Year Experience Office in developing the orientation program and schedule for incoming students, attend to the day-to-day details associated with the planning and execution of New Student Orientation, and assist in the recruitment, training, and co-supervision of the New Student Peer Mentors. This role will continue through the 2025 fall semester and minimally through the 2026 spring semester (see hour breakdown below). This role will supervise the new student peer mentors in conjunction with the FYE Student Coordinator and First-Year Experience office.

QUALIFICATIONS:- Rising Junior or Senior
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- The ability to organize details and coordinate plans; excellent reception, telephone and referral skills; plus good office skills (typing, filing, and simple bookkeeping).
- Must be familiar with campus services
- Demonstrates a willingness to work hard, maintain a sense of humor, and have a positive attitude.
- Serve as an ambassador for the college which includes positively representing the college at all times, including publicly and through social media.
- Preference will be given to students who have held significant leadership positions while at the institution with a proven record of success in the area of working with peers. The successful candidate must be able to work independently.
- Canva, Google Suite, Livewhale, Slate, and social media including Instagram experience preferred.
- Prior experience with New Student Orientation and serving as a New Student Peer Mentor is preferred.

- Collaborate with diverse groups and individuals
- Schedule and facilitate meetings
- Organize and prioritize daily tasks with minimal supervision
- Compose (edit) and prepare all written communications with new students and L&C community
- Recruit, train, and motivate student orientation leaders and management team leaders
- Act as a liaison between staff, faculty, and students
- Plan, organize, and execute a variety of events and programs to welcome and engage the incoming class of new students
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Maintain the First-Year Experience email and phone as well as text communication campaign through Slate
- Update the Orientation internal and external web pages
- Facilitate creation of the monthly newsletter throughout summer and fall semester
- Work with the Student Coordinator and FYE staff to plan and schedule orientation programming including daytime and evening programming
- Host and conduct biweekly NSO committee meetings over the summer
- Have a physically active role on campus during Orientation, including walking and light lifting.
- Assist with early Athlete NSO, regular NSO move-in and Orientation programming in August
- Assist in the interview and hiring process for New Student Peer Mentors in spring 2025
- Co-facilitate New Student Peer Mentor online and in-person training
- Organize the planning and preparation of webinars over the summer
- Attend monthly meetings during the Fall semester and plan final celebration for NSPMs
- SAAB tutoring support:
- Assist FYE office with the hiring and onboarding of new SAAB tutors
- Oversee tutoring appointment process
- Regularly check SAAB tutoring communication including program e-mail account
- Work with FYE staff to troubleshoot tutoring issues that may arise
RESPONSIBILITY TOWARDS DIVERSITY:Ability to honor and work with all identities and individuals, particularly those who are underrepresented in the country and/or at Lewis & Clark College.
WORK SCHEDULE SUMMARY:- February/March 2025 - Limited hours to assist in the interview and selection of the new student director/coordinator and peer mentors
- June 2025 (20 hours per week)
- July 2025 (25 hours per week)
- August 2025 (40 hours per week)
- Fall semester 2025 (6-10 hours per week)
- Spring semester 2026 (1-2 hours per week)
RATE OF PAY:- $15.95 per hour
- Depending on your housing needs, we are able to offer on-campus housing at a reduced cost during the summer (Mid-May to Mid-August)
