This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). SERC's mission is to provide resources, professional development, and a centralized library to educators, families, and community members in collaboration with the CT State Board of Education and other partners. General Summary The Fiscal Specialist will perform various moderately complex fiscal or bookkeeping duties related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll functions and other tasks as deemed necessary. Essential Job Functions The SERC Fiscal Specialist provides a wide range of financial accounting services. Applicants must have the ability to complete the following essential job functions:
- Enters data into the general ledger system; processes accounts payable; reviews billing invoices and purchase orders; and verifies business renewals for coding accuracy.
- Processes payroll: verifies computer file data-in coordination with Human Resources department-on pay increases, retirements, and terminations; creates supplemental pay schedules; reviews and edits documents; corrects errors and balances payroll for each pay period.
- Prepares documentation related to payable and payroll matters; compiles routine reports related to payroll activity.
Responsibilities The SERC Fiscal Specialists performs accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll functions. These duties include, but are not limited to:
- Prepares and analyzes a variety of routine fiscal statements, reports, and schedules; resolves issues and assists with account balancing.
- Responds to internal and external customer inquiries regarding invoices or billings, explaining established procedures and policies.
- Performs a variety of general office support work such as compiling information, organizing and maintaining various files on expenses, revenue, reports, forms, and specialized documents.
- Completes account reconciliation; prepares weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual activity reports for CFO and other members, as needed.
- Ensures that vendor invoices are processed in a timely manner and accurately, generate invoices and past due notices for accounts as needed.
- Updates and maintains fixed assets information.
- Compile requested information for internal and external audits.

Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Work Environment The SERC Fiscal Specialist will operate in both a professional office and virtual environment. Professional business attire will be required. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones. There are off-site requirements specific to workshops, training, or school and community work. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. The employee is frequently required to stand; be mobile; use hands or fingers; handle or feel, reach with hands and arms and lift/carry items. The availability of transportation is required to attend off-site work requirements. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This role is a full-time, exempt position. Days and work hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Occasionally, weekend or after-hours work may be necessary. Education and Experience Associate's degree or equivalent, although a Bachelor's degree is preferred; AND 3+ years of office or project experience; OR any similar combination of education and experience. Salary Range *$55,500 *Salary is non-negotiable; all new hires start at the beginning of the salary range. This position will remain open until filled.
