Department: Parks & Recreation Reports To: Wellness Manager and Coordinator FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt Effective Date: 11/2023 GENERAL PURPOSE: The Fitness Attendant is responsible for building positive, friendly relationships with all the High Blue members and guests who use the cardiovascular and strength areas. Responsibilities also include training members on proper use of the equipment as well as preventative and general maintenance of the training equipment areas. Cleanliness and Safety are of the utmost importance to High Blue and its members, your responsibility in this area is highlighted below. Incumbent must demonstrate a strong personal commitment to the mission and goals of the Belton Parks & Recreation Department. Carry out their assigned responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by the individual in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties as assigned.

  • Responsible for knowing members and introducing yourself to members. It is your job to create an atmosphere of a friendly community.
  • Responsible for logging duties performed during shift.
  • Responsible for communicating members needs to the Wellness Manager.
  • Give orientations to those members that request a tour of the facility.
  • Must be able to adjust and operate all Fitness Equipment and knowledgeable of fitness level in general.
  • Handle customer service inquiries and related problems.
  • Assist staff in preparing for weekend rentals, including private events and birthday parties.
  • Responsible for keeping fitness area safe and organized and clean. Must be able to demonstrate proper form and function when orienting members to the equipment.
  • Responsible for cleaning cardiovascular and strength machines when not in use.
  • Be knowledgeable of all Belton Parks & Recreation programs and services to answer questions and/or channel calls to the proper administrative and support staff.
  • Report any damage or maintenance needs to the Wellness Manager and document in the Maintenance sheet immediately.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Parks & Recreation Department Managers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Some knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance; some knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs; some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
  • Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions; ability to communicate orally and in writing; ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely; ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
Education and Experience:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in customer service preferred.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk; and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in highs, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock.
