Fitness Floor Associate-Part TimePOSITION SUMMARY:Under supervision of the Fitness Coordinator/Director or Branch Manager and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Fitness Floor Associate is responsible for managing the operations and training of members in the fitness center and free weight area. The Fitness Floor Associate will assist the Fitness Coordinator with various branch activities such as special events, and other activities that occur on various occasions.
- Supervises and guides the workout programs of members. Showing the proper techniques for training, correcting improper lifting techniques, encouraging members to continue working and advising new techniques to reach training goals. Good health and nutrition practices should be encouraged NOT the use of dietary supplements or other supplements.
- Provides a safe and clean workout environment. Maintain fitness area, keeping area clean and free of obstacles such as weights or pads that could be trip hazards in traffic areas. Cleaning duties include vacuuming, dusting, cleaning mirrors, wiping down weight and cardiovascular equipment, and restocking paper products as needed.
- Report to supervisor any equipment that is not working properly.
- Control unruly behavior, improper use of equipment or any other action against the policies of the YMCA
- Assist members with spotting or lifting weights.
- Greet members as they walk in the fitness area. Name recognition is desired.
- Update workout records. Leave encouraging notes like Great Job or Keep up the good work
- Schedules appointments to develop or update members' workout program.
- Introduce new members to others members and encourage contact with other members with same goals.
- Know and follow emergency procedures as situations warrant.
- Represents the YMCA and maintains its relationship with members and kindred organizations in the community
Qualifications: - Current CPR and First Aid Certifications
- A working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, fitness guidelines and program development
- The ability and willingness to approach participants in a non-threatening manner to correct form, offer suggestions and diffuse potential volatile situations
- The ability to provide customer service in a polite and informed manner
- Level of experience and certifications may be reflected in pay scale. College level weight training course may be accepted for employment. Foundations of Strength and Conditioning at the Y (offered by ACE), equivalent or better highly desired.
- Ability to reach overhead and bend to floor using proper body mechanics.
- Ability to demonstrate proper form while demonstrating exercises.
- Ability to carry, sit, see, hear, speak, run, crouch and walk
- Ability to lift at least a 25 lb. weight plate off floor with proper body mechanics
Pay Range: $10 per hour
