- Up to 35 hours per week, maximum, during summer semesters.
- Early mornings, evenings, and weekends may be required.
College/Department OverviewThe Department of Wellness and Sport enriches the academic mission of the University of Central Oklahoma by promoting transformative experiences through diverse sport, recreation and wellness opportunities to create a culture of lifelong wellness and success.Department Specific Job FunctionsThe Fitness Floor Facility Monitor is responsible for the majority of cleaning in the cardio and weight room area and provides supervisors with information concerning equipment in need of repair or maintenance. Duties and responsibilities to include, but are not limited to:
- Clean the group fitness room before 8am and before 5pm M-F.
- Clean windows and mirrors daily in group fitness area, cardio area and free weight area.
- Vacuum cardio and fitness area daily.
- Empty trash as needed and take to dumpster daily.
- Clean equipment bases cardio equipment, strength equipment and free weight machines.
- Dust all handrails and televisions daily.
- Spot mop fitness floor daily, mop track on Fridays.
- Check locker rooms for overflowing trash and remove as necessary.
- Be familiar with all emergency action plans and first aid procedures (includes a current certification in CPR/AED).
The Front Desk Assistant may be scheduled to work any shift that the Wellness Center is open. Duties and responsibilities to include, but are not limited to:
- Check the ID of everyone entering the gated area of the facility.
- Enforce all wellness center policies and procedures, exhibiting excellent customer service skills, and a willingness to help others.
- Answer multi-line telephone, provide information to inquiries, take messages, or direct calls.
- Check out equipment for use in the facility.
- Assist patrons with answering questions, providing general university information, and referring to supervisor any issues or concerns.
All wellness center student employees:
- Are required to wear the current student uniform.
- Should be familiar with Wellness Center policies and procedures.
- Complete and submit a timecard each payroll period, in a timely manner according to UCO procedures.
- Perform other various duties as needed or assigned by supervisor.

Half-time enrollment for fall/spring semesters is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. International students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible to work as a student employee. Full-time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.Summer Semester: Student employees working regular student positions must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to be eligible to work during the summer. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in fall classes in order to work during the summer, but they (and the department) will be required to pay FICA taxes. Student employees working FWSP positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours (if undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (if graduate) in order to work during the summer in a Federal Work Study Program position.Enrollment Exception: If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources. - Experience with fitness center equipment repair and maintenance.
- Advanced knowledge of Word Processing.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Good communication and public relations skills required.
- Must be able to demonstrate a warm and caring professional attitude.
- Must be proficient in basic computer skills such as Word Processing (advanced knowledge preferred).
- Current CPR Certification or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
- Basic knowledge of office procedures and practice.
- Experience with fitness center equipment repair and maintenance.
- Have sensitivity of intercultural communication, and good interpersonal skills.
- Must be dependable, thorough, and show initiative.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Detail oriented.
