The Fitness Supervisor at the YMCA of Central New York provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation to offer members as well as guests a positive and enjoyable workout experience. Responsibilities include; developing member relationships, assisting members with their fitness program, maintain the cleanliness of the fitness area and the equipment, conduct fitness orientations, and assist in preventative maintenance of equipment. The Fitness Supervisor assures the well-being for each participant in line with YMCA of the USA guidelines and association policies in accordance with their training.Salary and Benefits:Salary Range: $16.00-$22.00/hour, Full-time Non-exemptYMCA Family MembershipYMCA Retirement Fund Contribution: 12% (Y-10%; employee-2%)Health Insurance (2 plans with significant employer contribution for employee's premium)Personal Time, Vacation, New York State Paid Sick Leave, and Six Paid HolidaysEssential Functions:Models the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.Develops and maintains positive relationships with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization; supporting members connect with each other and the YMCA.Maintains physical presence and always remains alert while on duty.Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures; completes related reports as required.Able to understand and perform duties of their direct reports.Aid in membership retention and growth by connecting with our members to assist them in achieving their physical fitness goals.Welcome, assist and interact with members using the fitness center facility.Provide a safe and effective exercise instruction, while building relationships and helping to facilitate relationship building amongst members.Provide exceptional customer service to all members utilizing the fitness center.Assist the maintenance department with fitness equipment work orders.Conduct New Member Orientations as required and follow up with members after initial orientation.Assist with the scheduling of fitness center floor staff to ensure a sub is arranged for all vacant shifts.Demonstrate for members the proper technique of how to use the fitness center equipment.Monitor fitness centers to facilitate compliance with YMCA policies and procedures.Maintain a clean, organized and safe working environment.Perform daily checks on assigned areas of responsibility to ensure that standards are met.Report damaged or broken equipment to management.Assist with room set up for health and fitness programs as needed.Will design safe and effective training programs based on member goals, following standards and guidelines set forth by the American College of Sports Medicine.Obtain approval of all personal training clients with the Department Director before meeting with clients. Once approved, meet with clients for initial interview.Continually strive to obtain the most recent Health and Wellness Industry information and/or studies.Modify all wellness classes and routines to meet the varying wellness levels of our members.Maintain a written attendance record for all training sessions with each client.Contribute as a member of the fitness team towards improving the lifestyles of our members.Knows, follows, and enforces all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, procedures, and staff expectations, including those for the prevention of child abuse.Ambassador of all YMCA programs with a focus on department offerings and member engagement.Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed. This certification can be a National certification (MSCA, ACSM, ACE, NASM, NETA, or ISSA) in personal training instruction, or YMCA Foundations of Strength and Conditioning Instruction.Physical Requirements:The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.Prolonged periods of standing and frequent bending.Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.Work Environment:This job operates in a recreational and/or educational environment. This role routinely uses standard recreation and/or office equipment. At times, employees may be exposed to undesirable working conditions, communicable infectious diseases, and risk of injury from others. All employees are required to always follow the preventative health policies of the YMCA. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.
