Position Type: Athletics/Activities/Activity AdvisorDate Posted: 6/12/2024Location: Dayton Public SchoolsDistrict: Dayton Public SchoolsPosition: Flag Advisor Reports To: Building Principal Salary Schedule / Grade: $1,500 for each season F.L.S.A Status: Exempt SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Principal and an assistant to the High School Band Director, the Flag Instructor is responsible for the planning and instruction of the school's flag students. Responsibilities will encompass both field and parade flag. This seasonal employment opportunity runs from July to December and/or January to June and is dependent on performance schedule.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Engage students to practice, play and perform introduced materials.
- Attend all rehearsals, sectionals, and performances, actively participating in assisting students in sectionals and whole group rehearsals.
- Teach flag/dance basics, i.e. warm-ups, choreography.
- Teach routines for performing at athletic, school and community events.
- Work with the director during auditions and provide input into placement of students as needed
- Assist in teaching drill for the show. Choreograph routines to match the drill (if applicable).
- Monitor and control student behavior according to established procedures
- Maintain inventories of flag supplies, materials and equipment.
- Adjust and maintain flags and other equipment ensuring timely availability for student use.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the U.S.
- Must pass background check
- High School Diploma
- Strong background in marching band, flag performance.
- University marching band experience preferred.
- Experience in flag as well as dance
- Previous experience with instructing/teaching flag.
- Experience working with high school aged students.
- Ability to inspire students, building enthusiasm and love of the subject
- Ability to replace flags and do minor repairs on flag equipment.
- Ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, administrators, and community members.
- Maintain high level of ethical behavior and exercise good judgment in making decisions.
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to interact with students of different age and skill level in a positive and professional manner.
PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES/DEMANDS
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, stoop, and climb stairs
- Occasionally lift and/or move lightweight items up to 40 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work will be in an indoor and outdoor setting (exposure to sun, heat, cold and inclement weather)
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
- Work may be subject to frequent interruptions
- Some assignments are subject to completion within strict timelines
