Advantage Technical is currenting supporting an American beverage canning manufacturing company on a search for a Fleet Maintenance Manager.

The Fleet Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day shop activities and shop mechanics supervising the Company fleet. Duties include coordinating and scheduling all repair work in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.

REPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and execute the daily/weekly plan for maintenance shop to accomplish preventative maintenance and set or revaluate priorities depending on needs. Provide direction to mechanics to ensure that the fleet is repaired and maintained in a safe, efficient and timely manner with the highest quality.
  • Oversee shop inventory to ensure necessary equipment and parts levels are maintained and purchases are within budget. Review and approve expenses that are within scope of approval level; refer larger expenses or major repairs to manager as appropriate.
  • Manage adherence to safety procedures and policies established by company policy, OSHA, and DOT laws.
  • Arrange for the purchase and delivery of vehicles and equipment; ensure that all vehicles and equipment purchased are licensed, registered, and inspected as required by Commonwealth of Massachusetts law. Monitor the sale and disposition of retired/scrapped equipment.
  • Welds; replaces parts; repairs parts; repairs electrical systems; diagnoses vehicles for minor body and fender work; performs tune ups and engine overhauls; troubleshoots problems when needed.
  • Examines reports for accuracy on each vehicle and piece of equipment repaired; writes reports on vehicles and equipment repaired. Prepares the monthly billing of Bulk services.
  • Keeps maintenance and repair records; performs preventative maintenance on all departmental vehicles; orders repair parts.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with local and national vendors to ensure best pricing and quality work.
  • Actively promote a safety culture by adherence to safety procedures. Work with safety and environmental manager on investigations and corrective actions as a result of injuries/accidents, audits or employee concerns.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organized fleet maintenance facility.
  • Create employee schedules, approve timecards/time off requests, and work with HR to resolve any payroll issues. Complete annual performance reviews, coach, counsel, and discipline employees; interview and hire new employees.
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

  • Graduation from high school/technical school with course work in auto/equipment mechanics.
  • Six (6) years' experience with diesel engine/heavy equipment repairs or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

SPECIAL REQUIRMENTS

  • Must possess a valid Massachusetts Commercial Drivers License, Valid medical card and Clean MVR

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair equipment with accuracy and speed; ability to create effective working relationships with employees.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to coordinate programs, prepare reports and maintain accurate records.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience in working under limited supervision.
  • Experience working outdoors (making road calls, responding to breakdowns, working in outside parking lots).
  • Experience driving trucks requiring a Class A CDL (e.g., road testing vehicles, moving trucks in and out of shop).
  • Experience with heavy truck repair (tractor trailers, brakes, tires, engines)
  • Experience with light truck repair (trucks, vans, support vehicles).
  • Experience using shop tools (engine hoists, welding, changing tires, small tools).
  • Experience with diesel engines (certified on diesel engines, warranty certification from manufacturers).
  • Experience with preventative maintenance programs and activities (following schedules for oil changes, documentation of work completed, tracking miles and usage hours, identifying, and repairing defects).
  • DOT/OSHA knowledge and safe working practices.
  • Experience with gas engine repair.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and air brake systems.
  • Overtime and weekend work as required.
