Job Description:

JOB PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to provide operational effectiveness through management of shop personnel, company vehicle assets, capital budgeting and material purchasing.

EXPECTED RESULTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Ensure shop team members follow proper company policies, procedures, laws, and regulations including OSHA safety and quality standards
    • Report safety hazards and create safety first culture
  • Hold team members accountable to behaviors and expectations, participate in hiring and onboarding process, reward and recognize team members based on achievements, coordinate on the job training and career development opportunities
  • Lead fleet asset procurement, allocation, divesture, and special projects
    • Manage related costs, budgets, preventative maintenance schedules, etc.
  • Research equipment and part solutions, build effective relationships with vendors and suppliers, negotiate service agreements
  • Maintain awareness of industry best practices with fleet management systems and technology, propose changes and implement new policies, procedures, programs for department productivity and operating efficiencies
  • Develop key performance indicators to effectively monitor and report on fleet costs (i.e.: downtime, mechanical availability, production capacity, cost/hr, etc.)
  • Direct shop department deliverables and back up if needed, includes but is not limited to:
    • Fleet compliance requirements
    • Fleet maintenance and repairs
    • Material procurement
    • Inventory management
  • Respond to internal/external inquiries, follow up on employee and customer concerns
  • Complete required paperwork and reports, ensure data accuracy in relevant systems
  • Coordinate fleet management with maintenance supervisor and department
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proficient knowledge of trucking industry standards and compliance requirements, familiar with operational best practices and experienced in change management
  • Effective communication and conflict resolution skills, can handle stressful situations
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing multiple, competing priorities
  • Demonstrated leadership ability - can engage and empower employees

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience, industry related preferred
  • Experience managing assets similar in value and volume

TRAVEL REQUIREMENT

  • 50% locally

SALARY RANGE

  • $85,000- $115,000 USD

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly sits, stands, walks, types, and occasionally lifts up to 50 lbs.
  • Employee primarily works out of an office environment but is mobile between plant locations, construction job sites, etc.
