Job Description:

SUMMARY: Repairs and overhauls automobiles, trucks, tractors, trailers, dollies, refrigeration units, power jacks, tow motors, handcarts and other automotive vehicles by performing the following duties:ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Discusses with delivery drivers and/or fleet manager regarding the nature and extent of malfunction or damage. Prepares and completes a work/repair order along with other forms and paperwork as needed.
  • Performs all repairs and/or maintenance required utilizing the latest tools and diagnostic equipment available.
  • Signs-off on the Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) when work is completed. Attaches work/repair order to DVIR for filing and signs DVIR Book indicating repair is completed.
  • Works with hydraulic jacks, hoists and other power tools necessary to complete job in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Services engines, transmissions, differential and refrigeration units after proper diagnosis is performed.
  • Disassembles and inspects equipment for wear or malfunction after proper diagnosis is performed.
  • Repairs and/or replaces parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, bearings and other parts as needed after proper diagnosis is performed.
  • Replaces turbos, blowers, alternators, starters, pumps, clutches, differentials, transmissions, compressors and other components as required.
  • Rewires any electrical part, component or part as required.
  • Replaces and adjusts brakes and brake components, repairs and replaces front and or rear suspension components as required.
  • Performs Preventative Maintenance (PM's) on equipment per Company guidelines.
  • Replaces and adjusts all lighting wiring and components. Installs and repairs accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors and windshield wipers etc.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, must complete training courses offered by the Company and demonstrate the ability to utilize the latest diagnostic equipment including, but not limited to, hand held computers. Training may consist ofin house, off site and/or web based.The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one to three months related experience, training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as: work orders, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write out routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively and convey information to other employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.REASONING ABILITY:
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and/or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Desire and ability to learn new procedures and techniques as new technologies evolve.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
  • A current CDLA (Commercial Drivers License) with air brake and tanker endorsements that qualifies the mechanic to operate and drive the vehicle repairing and/or maintaining.
  • Current NYS Inspectors License, Refrigeration Certification and Brake Adjusters Certification.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms above shoulder level, climb, balance, stoop, knee, crouch, crawl, talk, see, smell and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and with assistance of other mechanical equipment, may have to occasionally lift and/or move in excess of 100 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
H= Heavy Work (Job exertion classification from the Dictionary of Occupational Titles) -Exerting 55 to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 55 lbs. of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical equipment. The employee often works in high precarious places and in outside weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and cleaning chemicals. Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn per Company guidelines.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Hearing protection may be required with some jobs.
WORK SCHEDULES
  • Must be available for all shifts (1st,2nd,3rd) along with weekends and holidays.
  • Workweek could vary; may include Saturdays, Sundays or Holidays with a specific weekday or rotating day off. Four; 10-hour days may also be scheduled.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Working safely, following all Company policies and complying with all Federal, State and County regulations is a condition of employment.
  • Mechanic must have own tools, annual tool allowance available.
Pay: $27.84-$30.84/hr.*
