VACANCIES WILL BE FILLED AS A Fleet Mechanic I or Fleet Mechanic II. JOB SUMMARY: Fleet Mechanic I performs semi-skilled work of average difficulty in the maintenance and repair of light, medium and heavy duty trucks and other similar mechanical equipment. Responsible for processing of inspection sheets. Work is performed under general supervision Fleet Mechanic II will performs skilled work of average to considerable difficulty in the maintenance and repair of a variety of gasoline and diesel and cng fueled engines and their associated equipment and other specialized mechanical devices and equipment. May lead and train other personnel when assigned. Work is performed independently under the direction of supervisory personnel. Fleet Mechanic I ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Lubricates vehicles in accordance with written and oral instructions. Checks various fluid levels and adds fluid as required. Performs general repairs such as remove and replace radiators, water pumps, brakes, belts, wipers, etc. Performs tire repair and replacement. Performs preventive maintenance to fleet assets on location including all ECUA properties. Assists mechanics as required with any fleet asset repairs. Maintains and repairs tools and equipment as required. Assists with and cleans garage area. Picks up and delivers parts to the fleet vehicles in the field. All other duties as assigned. Fleet Mechanic II ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Performs all Fleet Mechanic I duties in addition to: Troubleshoots malfunctioning engines, diagnoses problem, and effects needed repairs on all fleet assets including CNG. Performs regularly scheduled safety inspections on vehicles. Performs computer diagnostics on engines, transmissions and ABS systems. Performs preventive maintenance checks as scheduled. Disassembles and overhauls engines to include transmissions, differentials and suspension components. Advises material management inventory of frequently used parts and supplies. Identify and request parts and supplies. Maintains tools and equipment. Maintains shop and garage area. Maintains various activity logs and records. May take readings at gasoline pumps and tanks. May pick up and deliver parts to fleet vehicles in the field. All other Duties as assigned. High school diploma or equivalent. (Educational documentation will be requested upon offer of employment.) Fleet Mechanic I Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance of light, medium and heavy duty trucks. Additional vocational/technical training or ASE certification is desirable. Experience working with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles is a plus. Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Licenses and Certifications : Possession of or ability to obtain a Class A or B Commercial Driver's license within 6 months of offer of employment. Fleet Mechanic II Three (3) years of experience in performing repair and maintenance of light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks. Additional vocational/technical training or ASE certification is desirable. Any combination of education, training, and experience provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Experience working with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles is a plus. Licenses and Certifications : Possession of or ability to obtain a Class A or B Commercial Driver's license within 6 months of offer of employment. Possession or attainment of a Hazardous Materials Endorsement is desirable. Licenses and Certifications : A Class A or B Commercial Driver's License is required upon employment. Possession or attainment of a Hazardous Materials Endorsement is desirable. Possession of ASE Certificate is desirable. While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to stand and walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and is occasionally required to climb or balance and lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The incumbent's working conditions are typically moderately quiet, but may be loud for limited durations while working with power tools, equipment, or machinery following all prescribed safety rules and regulations. As a disaster team member, the employee is required to be available to work before, during, and after any disaster as directed. Occupational hazards and safety precautions. Techniques, methods, and practices of the repair and maintenance of small gasoline and/or diesel engines. Use and care of power and hand tools and equipment. Occupational hazards and safety precautions. For Fleet Mechanic III: Maintenance and repair of diesel and gas-powered automotive and heavy construction vehicles and equipment. Occupational hazards and safety precautions. Skill in : Diagnosis and repair of gas and diesel-powered heavy construction equipment. Use of hand and power tools and electronic diagnostic equipment. Safely operating forklifts and other lifting devices. Safely using tools and equipment. Maintaining and repairing small engines. Using tools and shop equipment. Ability to : Observe equipment in operation, detect and diagnose malfunctions, and perform corrective action. Read and understand technical/repair manuals and blue prints. Fabricate tools and equipment as needed. Use power and hand tools. Read and understand manuals, specifications, etc. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Use computer diagnostic equipment.
