The Eugene Water & Electric Board is currently seeking Fleet Mechanic to perform daily activities of complex diagnostic, repair, maintenance, and other related tasks on the Utilities' fleet of vehicles, power operated equipment and trailers. The selected candidate will be responsible for keeping automotive equipment in good running order, making repairs as needed, and returning the equipment to service quickly and economically. This position performs the mechanical repair and maintenance of automobiles, light and heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment such as backhoes and excavators, specialized aerial devices such as bucket trucks, derricks, cranes, hydro-excavators, and other assigned equipment.The primary schedule for this position is Swing Shift, M-Th, 3:00pm-1:30am (4/10's). While most of the work is performed at EWEB's Roosevelt Operation Center, employees may perform fieldwork under varying conditions along with occasional weekend and/or various shifts during emergencies and during training.Responsibilities:
- Troubleshooting and determining defects and repairs needed on heavy and light duty equipment
- Using lifts, specialty tools, and various automotive and diagnostic equipment to inspect and evaluate vehicles and equipment
- Performing tune-up work on vehicles and equipment, with an emphasis on heavy equipment
- Maintain complete and accurate records for work orders such as time, materials, and description of the work performed
- Performing scheduled preventative maintenance and inspections on vehicles and equipment
- Major repairs on diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, brakes, gear boxes, motors and pumps, and electrical systems; maintain diesel- and gas-powered light and heavy-duty equipment
- Initiating and updating maintenance records in the Utilities Fleet Management System
- Using various tools and equipment including, ohm meters, vacuum gauges, tire changers, wheel balancers, lifts, A/C recovery/rechargers
- Welding repairs and fabrication work on vehicles and heavy equipment
- Diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining complex electrical systems
- Repairing vehicles and equipment in the shop, as well as performing in the field repairs as necessary
- Locating and transporting vehicles needing repair or warranty work to venders
- Maintaining a high level of customer service while consistently providing quality service
- Developing and maintaining collaborative and respectful working relationships with team members and others
- Maintaining regular attendance and maintains work area for cleanliness and safety
Minimum Training and Experience Required:Minimum Experience: Five years of recent (journey level) work experience with diesel, automotive and alternative technology maintenance and drivability diagnostics.Education: Associates degree in Applied Science with automotive or diesel study or related degree, along with electronics training or an equivalent combination of education or journey-level certification plus additional job-related experience may be qualifying.Required education, experience, training, and certifications in applicable amount of time:
- Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) with tanker endorsement within one-year of hire.
- Forklift certification within six months of hire.
- ASE Master Certification (Truck) with one year of hire.
- Mobile Fluid Power Mobile Hydraulic Certification with one year of hire.
