Department: Safety Training & Risk ManagementJob Description: JOB SUMMARY: The Fleet Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing and implementing safety protocols and procedures across multiple locations within a specified region. This role focuses on ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, reducing accidents, and promoting a culture of safety within the fleet operations.This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safety of fleet operations, minimizing risks, and fostering a culture of safety within the transportation industry. This position requires a proactive approach to safety management, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement.JOB DESCRIPTION:Key Responsibilities:Safety Compliance:
  • Develop, implement, and monitor safety policies and procedures in alignment with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure adherence to safety standards.
  • Keep abreast of changes in laws and regulations related to transportation safety and implement necessary updates.
Training and Education:
  • Design and conduct safety training programs for drivers, mechanics, and other staff members.
  • Provide guidance on safe driving practices, accident prevention, and emergency response protocols.
  • Collaborate with HR to ensure new hires receive comprehensive safety training.
Risk Assessment and Analysis:
  • Analyze accident and incident reports to identify trends and root causes.
  • Develop strategies to mitigate risks and prevent future occurrences.
  • Implement corrective actions and improvement plans based on data analysis.
Communication and Collaboration:
  • Liaise with regional managers, fleet supervisors, and other stakeholders to promote a safety-first culture.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance department to ensure vehicles are properly maintained and serviced to meet safety standards.
  • Communicate safety updates, best practices, and initiatives across the region.
Performance Monitoring:
  • Track and analyze safety performance metrics, such as accident rates, near misses, and compliance levels.
  • Prepare reports and presentations to present safety performance to senior management.
Emergency Response and Investigations:
  • Coordinate responses to accidents, incidents, and emergencies.
  • Lead or assist in investigations to determine the causes of accidents and implement corrective actions.
Continuous Improvement:
  • Continuously review and improve safety programs and initiatives based on industry best practices and feedback.
QUALIFICATIONS:Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Transportation Management, Safety Management, or a related field. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Certification in Transportation Safety (e.g., Certified Director of Safety, Certified Safety Professional) is preferred.
  • Proven experience in fleet safety management, preferably within the transportation or logistics industry.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT regulations, OSHA standards, and other relevant safety guidelines.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to travel within the region as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of federal/state employment practices requirements
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Proven record of making well-informed decisions in both routine and emergency situations
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • High degree of initiative and independent execution. You can thrive as a team player but are also driven by autonomy
  • CSP, CDS Certifications recommended

WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • 5+ years of experience working in transportation, motor carrier experience, and/or experience with Motor carrier safety programs
EDUCATION:
  • College degree and/or 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience and 2 years of management experience
