Description:The Inpatient Rehab unit at Chelsea Hospital cares for patients requiring comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation after traumatic brain injuries, cerebral vascular accidents, amputations, debility, poly trauma or spinal cord injuries. Inpatient Rehab is a collaborative program between Chelsea Hospital and University of Michigan Health, staffed by a team of award-winning U-M Health rehab physicians and Chelsea Hospital nurses, therapists and specialists. Inpatient Rehab is expanding to two units with a total of 40 beds by the end of 2024 through a more than $10 million capital investment. With the expansion, we will participate in the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Model System and accept higher acuity patients.Chelsea Hospital is a 103-bed, not-for-profit hospital established in 1970 leading the way in patient safety in satisfaction. Position Summary:

Provide evaluation and treatment for patients on inpatient rehab unit. Participate in all aspects of their care including compliance and regulatory requirements, attending team conferences, completing family/care partner training, making recommendations for DME upon discharge, work with team to facilitate successful discharge to community setting. Weekends/holidays required on rotating basis. Occasional work on acute care unit may be required based on census/staffing. Prefer candidate with experience working with SCI and TBI population.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Provides quality patient care by considering the age specific, development and cultural needs through competent clinical practice. Demonstrates unit/area competencies.
  • Identifies and assists in resolution of problems related to safety, sanitation and maintenance of the environment.
  • Practices effective communication in all interactions (patient, visitor, co-worker, etc.)
  • Promotes a positive work environment by demonstrating teamwork.
  • Orients patients and families to the therapeutic purposes and procedures of Occupational Therapy.
  • Instructs patients and families in individualized home programs.
  • Participates in departmental quality assurance and improvement activities.
  • Provides for his/her own professional growth and education and contributes to staff development activities.
  • Supervises Occupational Therapy fieldwork students as assigned by the Clinical Coordinator or Student Program Coordinator.
  • Stays up to date on all participating insurance guidelines for rehabilitation services.
  • Provides thorough documentation on each patient interaction. Documentation must be timely and include all pertinent information required by state law, accrediting agencies and 3rd party payers.
  • Completes daily charges for each patient while adhering to ethical practices per insurance guidelines for each payer.
  • Works with site leader and secretarial staff to ensure schedules are managed well to achieve targeted productivity and clinic budget.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings.

Other Functions and Responsibilities:

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience and Certification/Licensure:

Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy from accredited university and licensure in the State of Michigan. Certification with the NBCOT preferred. Experience working with SCI and TBI population is preferred.
