We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable Seasonal Float Health Technician to provide essential health services across multiple school locations. This flexible, role will support school health teams in ensuring the well-being of students by assisting with health assessments, first aid, and general medical care. The ideal candidate will be responsive, proactive, and ready to step in as needed to support a variety of health needs in a school environment.
Position Accountabilities
* Following and enforcing school policies and procedures affecting the health, safety and well-being of employees and students in the school health setting
* Providing medication administration; maintain proper documentation for the administration of medication and provide parent awareness of the need to re-supply medication.
* Administering minor first aid
* Performing clean catheterizations
* Performing/assisting with blood glucose monitoring
* May assist with managing communicable diseases and conditions
* Notifying PanCare nurse, parent/guardian, and principal of acutely ill or injured students
* Completing head lice interventions (including detection, parent education and screening for re-admission to school); Efforts will be made to avoid peak medication distribution times which typically occurs during the hours of 10:30am-1:00pm
* Performing CPR/AED as needed
* Documentation and data reporting of services provided in clinic according to established policy and procedure
* Communicating with school health nurse, school personnel or parent/guardian as needed for care of student
* Assisting in the provision of health screenings of students: hearing, vision, scoliosis, BMI and subsequent follow up referrals as requested
* Performing specialized medical procedures for students after receiving child specific training and delegation by registered nurse
* Overseeing inventory and usage of first aid and related health supplies and equipment and informs principal of Health Room needs
* Complying with confidentiality requirements of the School District of Bay County and PanCare of Florida, Inc.
* Ensuring that all paperwork generated in clinic will be dispersed following established policy and procedure
* Performing other related duties as assigned; including but not limited to, those duties referenced in the Provision of Health Services task list provided by the Florida Department of Health
* Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
* High School Graduate or GED Diploma
* Must hold current CPR certification (Infant/Child/Adult/AED), as well as completion of First Aid training.
* Must successfully pass a Level I background screening.
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
* Computer literate and experienced with a variety of business machines (copy, scan, fax, etc.).
* Excellent communication skills and proper phone etiquette required.
Additional Requirements: The School Health Technicians will be supervised by, at a minimum, a Licensed Nurse or other properly credentialed medical professional, and such supervision will be performed according to professional standards as stated in the Florida Nurse Practice Act.
Physical / Mental Demands:
Health Technician must be able to meet physical and emotional requirements necessary for the well-being of the patient:
* Physical stamina, endurance, and mobility, that would not be adversely affected by lifting, carrying, and balancing.
* Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to assist and transport patients and to transport, pull and push equipment. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights.
* Motor coordination over uneven terrain, such as playgrounds and practice fields, is necessary to attend to injured or sick patients in locations outside of the Health Room. This includes responding to emergency situations where the patient requires CPR/First Aid.
* Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
* Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
* Frequent interactions with patients, patient parent/guardian, nurses, and others that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
* Emotional maturity and stability to approach highly stressful human situations in a calm and rational manner.
Health Technician Physical Requirements:
