Job SummaryThe Floater Phlebotomist is responsible for preparing specimens for laboratory testing, performing blood draws, and upholding screening standards across multiple locations. This role requires a high level of expertise in collecting quality blood samples and creating a trustworthy, comfortable experience for patients.
Key Responsibilities- Perform blood draws, label specimens, and prepare samples, including centrifuging, splitting, and freezing as required by test orders.
- Greet patients courteously and explain venipuncture or other specimen collection processes in a clear, calming manner.
- Reduce patient anxiety by maintaining a calm and supportive environment.
- Accurately match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and ensure correct labeling and storage according to protocol.
- Package specimens for transport, ensuring adherence to temperature and handling requirements for sample integrity.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations, and attend annual department trainings.
- Answer inquiries and read laboratory results as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
Required Qualifications- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (certification required in CA, LA, NV, and WA).
- Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting, with 2+ years of total experience.
- Reliable transportation with a valid driver's license and at least 4 years of licensed driving experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Willingness to travel 100% of the time within the assigned geographic area.
Preferred Qualifications- Strong patient interaction skills, both in person and over the phone.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
