JOB DESCRIPTION:

Primary Purpose

To provide support and fill in as a manager in the district as needed and during absences to ensure continuous operation and adherence to standards. Manage the multiple-line service of safe, nutritious, appealing meals to secondary students and staff in an atmosphere of friendliness, cleanliness, and efficiency.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Major Responsibilities and Duties

1. Comply with applicable guidelines and policies.

2. Oversee daily operations of the cafeteria, including meal preparation, monitoring food quality and presentation to uphold standards of excellence to students, order supplies, positive customer service, and clean-up.

3. Step in as manager during campus manager absences to maintain continuity and efficiency.

4. Manage inventory levels and order supplies and equipment on time according to the outlined schedule to maintain stocks and meet demands. .

5. Maintain high standards of sanitation and safety, and to ensure compliance with nutrition guidelines and regulations set by the USDA and TDA.

6. Ability to multitask, prioritize, and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment.

7. Balance labor and food costs with revenue received.

8. Assume responsibility for records of cash, food, supplies, and equipment.

10. Report malfunctioning equipment and ensure proper usage.

11. Assist in training regular and substitute employees.

12. Supervise regular and substitute employees.

13. Monitor time sheets and timecards for accuracy.

14. Work after regular hours as needed for special events and emergencies.

15. Foster an attitude of customer satisfaction among employees.

16. Correct unsafe conditions that may exist in the work area that could cause an accident. Any conditions that are not correctable by you are to be reported to the supervisor immediately.

17. Know and practice the proper safety procedures in operating machinery and equipment as required for the job.

18. Know and practice safety techniques in lifting, climbing, and performing other job duties.

19. Attendance at work is an essential function.

20. Other duties assigned by the supervisor or designee.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Experience:

* Two years of experience as a food service management, preferably in a school or institutional setting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification:

* High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.

* TSFSA certification preferred.

* Serve Safe Required

Special Knowledge/Skills:

* Ability to read and understand instructions for food preparation and safety procedures as written.

* Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage staff and interact with campus principals, employees, and parents. (stakeholders)

* Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and fill in as needed.

* Possess people management and motivation skills.

* Ability to maintain records.

* Ability to merchandise products.

* Experience in using computers and ten-key machines.

OTHER INFORMATION:

Equipment Used:

Large and small kitchen equipment to include electric slicer, mixer, pressure steamer, deep-fat fryer, vegetable cutters, sharp cutting tools, ovens, dishwashers, food/utility carts and ladders.

Working Conditions

Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over), pushing (intermittent), reaching above shoulders, use of fingers, walking (intermittent), standing (3-5 hours per day), kneeling (intermittent), repeated bending (intermittent), climbing (intermittent), specific visual requirements (reading product labels, directions/equipment operation), specific hearing requirement (oral and telephone conversations). Excessive heat, cold and humidity; excessive dampness or chilling, excessive noise (intermittent), fumes, solvents, works around machinery with moving parts, working on ladders, or scaffolding, working with hands in water. Attendance at work is an essential function.
