Butner, NC

Murdoch Developmental Center is currently accepting applications for a Floor Maintenance Assistant to work on 1st shift. The primary purpose of this position is to perform cleaning and maintenance of various types of floor surfaces and other specialized projects throughout Murdoch Developmental Center, which has separate buildings throughout campus where work will be performed. The Floor Maintenance Assistant's work is guided by a daily schedule for general assignments and special project work. Work performance is reviewed by quality checks, monitoring, and consultation with supervisory personnel. This position reports to the supervisor any safety or sanitation hazards immediately. The normal work schedule is 6:30am to 3:00pm, Monday - Friday, including some evenings and weekends for special projects. This position is designated Mandatory and must report or stay overnight during adverse weather events.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following:

* Gathering materials, supplies, and equipment and preparing necessary cleaning solutions according to specified job tasks

* Prepping corners, edges, doorways, stationary furniture, and sweeping floors

* Stripping floors using proper procedures and the correct solution for the floor type

* Buffing floors using proper procedures, correct solution, and equipment

* Vacuuming/Shampooing carpets, rugs, and doormats using proper procedures, correct solution, and equipment

* Maintaining/Applying floor finish by using proper procedures, and equipment

* Moving furniture using hand trucks, desk movers, and carts up to 200 lbs to allow access to floor area

* Maintains equipment, and assures that ALL equipment is cleaned according to the proper procedure

* Assisting with cleaning windows at least yearly, inside and out, more often as conditions require

* Special projects as assigned by Environmental Services Supervisor

* Assisting with tasks related to inclement weather

* Other tasks as assigned by supervision

* Experience stripping and refinishing floors

* Experience cleaning carpets

Management preferences:

* One or more years of floor maintenance experience in a commercial or institutional setting

* Experience troubleshooting floor care equipment

* Knowledge of bonnet carpet cleaning methods

* Valid NC Drivers License

Physical Requirements:

* Good physical condition to assist with stripping and refinishing all floor types, using various floor equipment, lifting to 200 lbs. with furniture, beds, etc

* Ability to walk and stand long periods of time
