Job Type Full-timeDescriptionOverviewTanaq Government Services (TGS) provides facilities Operations & Maintenance (O&M) services to Federal customers. Services provided include complete building maintenance and operations on large complex individual buildings as well as multiple buildings on large campus type environments including military installations. TGS is a subsidiary of the St. George Tanaq Corporation, an Alaskan Native Corporation (ANC) committed to serving Federal customers while also giving back to the Tanaq native community and shareholders. About the RoleWe are seeking a full-time Floor Person to provide custodial/janitorial services at the Orville and Wilbur Wright Federal Buildings. The Flor Person will be responsible for all cleaning related to floor surfaces to restore surfaces in assigned areas. Duties will include dusting, sweeping, mopping, finishing, and buffing floors, vacuuming, shampooing of carpets, general cleaning, and cleaning and restocking restrooms. This role will use common and specialized equipment, materials and methods to assure facilities are clean and free of safety hazards.This is a fully onsite position that will report to the Orville and Wilbur Wright Federal Buildings in Washington, D.C.Responsibilities
  • Sweep and mop floors.
  • Perform floor buffing, ceramic tile scrubbing, stripping & waxing, pressure washing, shower restoration sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, restroom cleaning and trash removal.
  • Move furniture for floor access.
  • Perform carpet cleaning and/or extraction.
  • Perform light window and wall cleaning duties.
  • Utilize the latest in tools, equipment, and chemicals to assure facility surfaces and perimeters are restored and free of safety hazards.
  • Must understand and follow the cleaning requirements and standards required by the U.S. Government, namely the FAA.
  • Must understand and follow the proper use of equipment, storage of cleaning materials, and handling of cleaning compounds.
  • Must adhere to cleaning schedules and timings.
  • Complete scheduled floor cleaning and maintenance tasks.
  • Inspect and prepare necessary equipment and chemicals required for scheduled procedures.
  • Complete necessary floor tasks using floor machine and scrubber, followed by a quality review of project.
  • Operate wax and buffer machines to wax and buff floors on a regular basis.
  • Clean and maintain custodial equipment to ensure proper operation and safe condition.
  • Clean spills promptly.
  • Properly secure all equipment at completion of tasks, and request any necessary repairs to equipment.
  • When required, also perform general janitorial tasks, and assist other departments when needed to ensure optimum service to guests and clients.
  • Attend safety meetings and other related meetings.
  • Take training classes as required in cleaning methods, techniques, and products.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
RequirementsRequired Experience and Skills
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience as a cleaner, custodian or janitor in an office or similar environment.
  • Previous experience in professional floor care. including knowledge of custodial practices, floor equipment, supplies and procedures preferred.
  • Ability to perform quality work in a safe manner.
  • Have a good understanding of the cleaning requirements and standards required by the U.S. Government, preferably the FAA.
  • Be aware of the proper use of equipment, storage of cleaning materials, and handling of cleaning compounds.
  • Must be able to adhere to cleaning schedules and timings,
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions on labels for proper and safe use of chemicals, supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to learn to use specialized departmental equipment, including that used in custodial services such as scrubbers and buffers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respond to questions and requests from customers and others.
  • Human relations skills to build effective working relationships.
  • Basic mathematical ability including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to manage and accurately track material resources and time, and adapt to changing work priorities.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work second and third shifts.
  • Demonstrated organizational, problem solving and common sense skills.
  • Abide by the Federal Drug-Free workplace policy.
  • Must be able to pass background check requirements as set by clients.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record may be required.
  • Have a clear background and ability to pass background checks/screening.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
Education and Training Required
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to complete and pass the Cleaning Management Institute (CMI) Basic Custodial Technician certification within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Ability to complete and obtain the CMI Advanced Custodial Technician Certification within the first 6 months of employment.

  • Must be able to walk or stand on level and/or inclined surfaces and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to routinely climb / descend stairs.
  • Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows / knees, and reach above / below shoulders.
Pay RangeThe projected hourly pay for this position is $23.05/hour USD.Benefits InformationThis is a Union position.
