1 Flour Packer A. SUMMARY: This positionis occupied by peoplein the Warehouse Department who reportsto the Warehouse Supervisor. Their main purpose is to operatethe equipment as neededto fill the demand for bagged and bulk product.They must be capableof relieving all other warehousepersonnel. B. TASKS: The EssentialFunctions of this job are listed,below: 1. Conduct all activities in compliance with safety and plant rules and Good Manufacturing Practices. 2. Work in the packing area of the warehousedepartment and is responsible for the operation of the packing, shrink wrapping,conveying, palletizing, stretch wrapping, and pallethandling equipmentused on 5#, 25#, 50#, 100#, and 111# flour bags and all that it entails. 3. Conductroutine maintenance on the department and mill equipment as scheduled and maintain the assigned area in a clean, sanitarycondition at all times. 4. Operatethe forklift as needed to load trucks and supply empty bags,and rolls of wrapping material to the packaging equipment and personnel. 5. Direct the pre-loading, loading, inspection and scaling of bulk trucks and all that it entails. 6. Coordinate the activities of the Floormanand Forklift Operator duringthe packing, conveying, palletizing, stretch wrapping and warehousing of completedpallets of productin the warehouse 7. Inspect all packagedproducts for productquality and consistency; inspect all packagesfor proper code printing and packageintegrity. 8. Routinelyobserve and reportto supervisor information he/she needs to ensure the preservation of the physicalfacility, including all utilities, pumps, compressors, boilers, roofs, etc. 9. Carries out the instructions of the Chief or Assistant Chief as spelled out in the EmergencyAction Plan in case of an emergency. C. REQUIREMENTS: People in this position shall have the abilityto: 1. HOURS OF WORK: Work onall three shifts, and be subject to overtime, up to twelve hours per day and up to seven days per week for weeks at a time. 2. SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE: Basic knowledge of the process and flow of materials in the plant. 3. MACHINES,TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, ETC: Use common hand and power tools. Operate and be familiar with common electric and electronic devices. 4. GENERAL EDUCATION, REASONING: Apply principles of rational systems to solve practicalproblems and deal with a variety of concretevariables in situations where only limited standardization exists; to interpret a varietyof complex instructions. 5. GENERAL EDUCATION, MATHEMATICS: Add, subtract, multiply, and divideall units of measure; to performthe four operations with like or commondecimal fractions; to compute ratio, rate, and percent; to performarithmetic operations involving all American milling units of measure. 6. GENERAL EDUCATION, LANGUAGE: Use a passive vocabulary of 5-6,000 words; to read at a slow rate; to write compound and complex sentences, using proper end punctuation, and employingadverbs and adjectives. Communicate in complex sentences; using normalword order with present and past tenses;using good vocabulary. 7. PHYSICALDEMANDS, TYPE: Ascend or descend ladders, scaffolding, stairs, etc., with agility. Maintainbody equilibrium to prevent fallingfrom precarious places.Lower the body to floor level and move about with agility. Extend out and retrieve objectsoutside immediaterange. Supportoneself and stay in upright position. Press against something with substantial steady force in order to thrustforward, downward,or outward. Exert a considerable force in order to draw, drag,haul or tug objectsin a sustainedmotion. Raise substantial objectsfrom a lower to a higher positionor move objects horizontally from position to position. Maneuver small objects precisely by whatever means. Detect attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, texture, tensionor force by tactilemeans. Express or exchangeideas by means of the spoken word. Perceivethe nature of sounds with no less than a40 dB loss @ 500 Hz, 1,000 Hz, and 2,000 Hz with or withoutcorrection. Be subject to substantial repetitive motions of the body or its parts. 8. PHYSICALDEMANDS, DEGREE: Exert up to 111 poundsof force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force regularly to move objects. 9. VISUALDEMANDS: Use visualacuity of mechanicsand skilled trades people,where the seeing job is of a non-repetitive nature at or within arms reach. 10. PHYSICALSURROUNDINGS: Enter into and work inside filters,bins, hoppers, rooms, pits, and other confined spaces as needed.Be subject to inside environmental conditions: Activities occur both inside and outdoors. Be subject to sufficient noise to cause the workerto shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level:Wearing of hearing protection a frequent requirement. Be subjectto vibration: Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or the whole body. Be subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, or gases.Often required to wear a respirator. Be subject to lubricating oils. Be subjectto hazards: Workingon ladders, high catwalks,and manlifts, in proximity to moving mechanical parts, electriccurrent devices,and exposure to chemicals. D.
