Position Title: Food Safety & Quality SupervisorPosition Type: Regular - Full-TimePosition Location: OthelloRequisition ID: 31041The Food Safety & Quality Supervisor reports to the Food Safety & Quality Manager and is responsible for supervising the daily operations of the Quality Control team as well as to ensure smooth team operations and effective collaboration with each other as well as other areas of the facility. A primary responsibility of this role is to develop the team's skills and engage them to meet goals.Qualifications:To perform this job successfully, the Supervisor must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions:* Excellent communication and leadership skills* Proven work experience as a team leader or supervisor* In-depth knowledge of performance metrics* Good PC skills, especially MS Excel* Organizational and time-management skills* Excellent decision-making and problem solving skillsEssential Functions:* Responsible for oversight of site food safety technicians ie. microbiology lab techs. Provide performance evaluations, training, coaching, discipline, recognition, and leadership as appropriate.* The Food Safety & Quality Supervisor has the authority to release hold product that meets specification and to place raw or finished product on hold if a quality attribute is not met.* Provide leadership to Quality personnel while promoting cooperation between other departments.* Assure compliance to quality standards through effective supervision of Quality Lab personnel.* Understand/interpret product specs for quality attributes.* Understand/interpret/develop Quality standard operating policies/procedures.* Research and respond to customer complaints per Quality Manager directive.* Maintain compliance to customer requirements.* Assist employees in resolving work related problems/concerns.* Responsible for ongoing training of staff, planning, assigning and directing work.* Conduct employee performance appraisals and develop performance improvement plans as needed* Maintain department expenses within established budget. Track Quality supply Purchases. Submit P Card purchases and support Coupa required review/purchasing.* Maintain inventory supply and order as needed.* Assist in facilitation of 3rd Party, regulatory, and Internal Audits.* Attend and participate in, weekly performance meetings, daily scheduling meeting and additional meetings to facilitate operations.* Manage Quality Communication board and attend support department huddles.* Participate in R&D meetings and provide input into the development of new products & sensory product cuttings.* Conduct Held Product Rework meetings & weekly department meetings work Quality Leads.* Train in Annual Sensory and Annual Quality Calibration.* Maintain Micro and Incoming Sampling matrix.* Support and drive continuous improvement projects.* Member of plant Food Safety and HACCP teams.* Assist with Raw Material complaint notification decisions.* Ensures completion of proficiency testing and corrective action.* Leads shelf-life testing and validation.* Supports new equipment validation (lab and processing).* Lab support for extended run and line validation programs.* Driving continuous improvement for Quality metrics and KPIs in the factory.* Summarizes data, prepares and interprets reports for use by management.* Approving and managing PTO requests, managing leaves, and all other HR responsibilities.Education and/or Experience:* Bachelor's degree in food science, science or related technical degree.* Three years minimum supervisory experience in a food manufacturing setting.* PCQI and HACCP certification preferred.* Computer proficiency is necessary to maximize job performance.* Ability to analyze and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.* Ability to write reports, correspondence and procedure manuals.* Ability to present information and respond to questions from management, clients, customers, and the public.* Ability to apply probability and statistical inference concepts, fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.* Problem solving and interpreting technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and dealing with abstract and concrete variables is important.* Knowledge of root cause analysis tools to be used on food safety issues. Must have working knowledge of food safety and sanitation principles and practices.* Familiarity with GFSI audit standards (BRC).This job description covers the basic functions of the job and is not intended to provide a complete listing of daily tasks.
