The nature of the work requires following established procedures and Federal, State, and District regulations, with particular emphasis on food safety standards.Supervision Exercised: No Supervisory responsibility.Interface: Primarily interfaces with students, Food Services staff, and school personnel.Essential Job Functions:Prepares and serves cafeteria meals, including hot and cold entrees, fruits, vegetables, snacks and other foods, assuring proper quality and quantity of food prepared.Readies food facilities for service, including preparing serving areas and setting out food, beverages and other mealtime items.Performs basic food preparation tasks, including washing and chopping fruits and vegetables, checking food temperatures, placing dishes in oven and setting out snacks.Follows written menus, recipes, production records and production standards.Assists Cook Manager in the record keeping and maintenance of Nutritional Services documents, including production records, temperature logs and inventoryAssembles food items for the salad bar.Clears, stores and appropriately disposes of leftover food to ensure sanitary standards are met and waste is minimized.Operates various types of kitchen equipment, including point of sale cash registers/software, oven, food warmer, dish washer, and steam table.Ensures that serving lines are properly stocked and adequately supplied.Follows all food safety and sanitation procedures with precision in the receiving and storage of supplies; in food preparation; in service of food; in storage, disposal or donation of leftovers; and in cleaning and maintaining equipment and work areas.Maintains food service areas in a clean, sanitary, and safe condition.Handles point of sale transactions for the purchasing of cafeteria food items.Washes and stores equipment, pots, pans, trays, and other food service items; lifts moderately heavy objects.Assists in maintaining inventory and rotating stocked supplies.Assists other food services personnel in the completion of assigned tasks.Assists with training of new employees, parent volunteers, and student helpers.Participates in required hours of annual continuing education, per federal law.Maintains effective and respectful working relationships with staff and students.The statements contained above reflect general details as necessary to describe the principal functions of this job but should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. The work environment is often loud and includes exposure to both hot and cold temperatures, hot surfaces, and vibrating equipment. Other potential hazards include but are not limited to chemicals, fumes, communicable diseases, sharp objects, hand operated power equipment, odors and slippery surfaces.The Food Services Assistant will constantly stand or walk (up to 100% of time) while performing kitchen food preparation duties on tile/concrete surfaces up to 2-3 miles per day. The job involves moderate to fast-paced walking to meet daily timelines.The Food Services Assistant must: Lifting/Carrying. Constantly lift up to 10 lbs.; frequently lift up to 20 lbs.; and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.; and must carry loads up to 15 feet.Pushing/Pulling. Constantly exert a force up to 10 pounds while stocking supplies and using wheeled cart to move food and supplies; frequently exert a force of up to 20 pounds; and occasionally exert a force up to 50 lbs., and intermittently exert a force (push/pull) up to 75 lbs.Climbing. Infrequently climb using step stools while retrieving or replacing items in stock room, freezer or storage areas.Bending/Twisting. Constantly bend or twist, at waist/knees, while preparing food, removing cookware and/or supplies from lower shelf, or cleaning/sanitizing.Kneeling/Crouching. Occasionally kneel and crouch, removing items from lower shelves or replacing them, or cleaning below counter level.Using hands/arms. Constantly use both hands and both arms.Handling/Grasping. Constantly must reach, handle, grip, grasp and finger while performing food preparation, handling supplies and materials, cleaning and wiping.Reaching. Frequently or constantly extend-reach, including occasional overhead reaching.Seeing/Hearing/Smelling/Speaking.
