Salary: From $16/hour, Full-time

Hours & Schedule: Mon - Fri, 30hrs/week

Overview of Your Role

The primary function of the Food Service Driver will be to deliver meals through our Food Service Program, which provides meals to children in Albany and Rensselaer County. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring timely delivery of meals to sites, reviewing orders prior to delivery, loading and unloading, as well as maintaining a positive attitude.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Food Safety & Handling:

  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and HACCP principles
  • Maintain proper food temperatures during transport
  • Ensure all meals are properly packaged and sealed before delivery

Vehicle Operation & Maintenance:

  • Safely operate and navigate the delivery vehicle in various weather conditions
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections before and after routes; report any vehicle issues or maintenance needs promptly
  • Follow proper sanitation procedures for all equipment and tools used in the delivery process

Delivery Operations:

  • Load and unload the vehicle efficiently, ensuring proper organization of meals
  • Follow predetermined delivery routes and adhere to strict time schedules, using GPS and mapping tools to optimize routes for efficiency
  • Properly secure all items in the vehicle to prevent damage during transport

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Accurately complete daily delivery logs, mileage reports, and temperature logs
  • Document any discrepancies in meal counts or quality
  • Report any issues or concerns from delivery sites to the Food Service Director

Customer Service:

  • Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor when interacting with site staff and clients
  • Effectively communicate any changes or issues to site personnel; address and report any complaints or feedback from delivery sites to Food Service Director

Inventory Management:

  • Assist in maintaining accurate inventory of meals and supplies
  • Report low stock levels or supply needs to the Food Service Director
  • Participate in regular inventory counts as required

Compliance:

  • Follow all DOT regulations and maintain compliance with driving laws
  • Adhere to BGCCA policies and procedures at all times
  • Maintain required certifications and licenses

Team Collaboration:

  • Work cooperatively with kitchen staff to ensure smooth meal preparation and delivery processes
  • Assist in training new drivers, volunteers, or community service workers as needed
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for improving delivery processes

Emergency Response:

  • Be prepared to handle unexpected situations such as vehicle breakdowns or delivery issues
  • Communicate promptly with supervisors in case of emergencies or significant delays

Flexibility/Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay updated on best practices in food delivery and safety
  • Participate in relevant training and professional development opportunities
  • Be willing to adjust schedules or routes as needed to meet program demands
  • Assist with other food service tasks or special events as required

Work environment: Primary work environment is in a vehicle and at various delivery locations

CREDENTIALS, SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum - High school diploma or equivalency
  • Prior experience working in a driving capacity
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record (no traffic violations)

  • Strong multitasking, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Superior skills working with a team
  • Good organization and attention to detail
  • Strong time management skills
  • Strong customer relations skills
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Must pass a comprehensive background check, as required by BGCCA regulations

Physical Requirements: This job may require extended periods of driving, standing, and walking. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds is necessary.
