Position Summary:

Responsible for serving nutritional and attractive meals in a sanitary manner according to the standard menus and recipes.

Responsibilities:

  • Food Preparation and General Duties
    • Prepares work area and serving area for meal times.
    • Helps serve residents and also feed residents, if time allows, under the supervision of the charge nurse.
    • Prepares and delivers snacks/nourishments as scheduled.
    • Checks and replenishes supplies in the scheduled work areas.
    • Follows cleaning schedules.
    • Takes care of any extra guests.
    • Fills water, milk, juice, and coffee for the residents.
    • Assists with any food preparation in the kitchen, if time allows.
    • Notifies nursing of missing residents.
    • Assists with dishwashing according to departmental procedures.
  • Safety and Sanitation
    • Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
    • Cleans and sanitizes workstation and table after each meal.
    • Cleans and sanitizes food carts following each meal.
    • Performs weekly cleaning schedules.
    • Fills extra time with additional cleaning.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of fire and disaster preparedness.
  • Personal and Interpersonal Responsibilities
    • Assumes responsibilities for professional growth and development.
    • Complies with personnel policies
    • Adheres to departmental policies and procedures.
    • Attends in services and/or continuing education programs.
    • Attends and participates in department meetings.
    • Assumes responsibility for working scheduled hours.
  • Performs related duties as needed.

Essential Physical Functions:

  • Repeated bending and /or stooping 50 to 75% of the time during shift.
  • Frequent lifting of 2 to 25 pounds 80 to 100% of the time during shift.
  • Occasional lifting of 25-50 pounds 5 to 15% of the time during shift.
  • Frequent pushing and/or pulling of 35-75 pounds 75-85% of the time during shift.
  • Occasional pushing and/or pulling 75-100 pounds 10 to 20 % of the time during shift.
  • Able to stand for 50-100% of the time during shift.

Degree of Supervision:

Direct or close supervision; follows specific and defined procedures and instructions (verbal or written), is told what solutions to work for, and does only routine work. No authority. Acts only after supervisor has approved the proposed actions.

Level of Interpersonal Skills Required:

Normal. Must be able to exchange information on factual matters, greet residents and visitors, and so forth. Ordinary courtesy and tact required.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Requirements:

Minimal or no analytical ability is required to successfully complete assigned responsibilities. Duties are of a normal or routine nature.

Qualifications

  • Education: General high school subject matter. Has ability to read, write, speak, and follow written and oral directions.
  • Certification: None.
  • Experience: None required.
  • Physical Exertion: Heavy. See Essential Physical Functions
  • Visual Attention: Normal.
  • Exemplify a caring, cheerful behavior and effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Be willing to maintain a helpful, respectful, and courteous manner with all residents, visitors, and staff.
