Job Description Summary:Under the general supervision of the Administrator, responsible for planning and directing activities of the Food and Nutrition Services Department to provide food service for patients, hospital employees, and visitors, and for ensuring that all applicable standards set forth in the most recent version of the Accreditation Manual for Hospitals are met. Provides medical nutrition therapy for patients. Registration as a Registered Dietitian by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and licensure by the State of Tennessee Health Related Boards required. Employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.Develops, implements, and monitors department annual budget, authorizes expenditures; evaluates, recommends budgetary changes to meet standards or improve operation of the department and services offered. Interviews, hires, delivers personal training, and approves personnel action for all department personnel. Provides clinical nutritional care/medical nutrition therapy to inpatients. May provide diet education to inpatients, outpatients and community as necessary. Writes menus according to accepted standards; writes patient menu cycle and approves cafeteria menus. Directs special events and catering functions. Ensures quality food preparation and service. Plans and implements Quality Plus activities; reports results as assigned. Conducts regular staff meetings and staff development activities. Participates in hospital committees involving clinical care of patients or food services (i.e. discharge planning, patient care committee, safety and environment, infection control, etc.). Develops and monitors adherence to all safety and health codes and regulatory agency standards. May provide clinical services to affiliate hospitals. Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: - Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition or Food Systems Management plus an AND approved Dietetic Internship or Master's Degree.
LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:- Licensure by the State of Tennessee Health Related Boards; Registration as a Registered Dietitian by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
EXPERIENCE:- Proficiency in all areas of clinical nutrition and food service management, including budget development, personnel management, catering, developing policies and procedures, and operational goals and guidelines as normally acquired through three years of experience in dietetic management practice.
